It's too bad a game like this, released so early in the year, will likely get totally overlooked in GOTY voting at the end of the year. If this game was release a month before it was it would have easily been GOTY for last year.
I liked Uncharted 2 and Dragon Age, but Mass Effect 2 is another step up from those.

Uncharted 2 is the most over-rated game in history.

so after finishing the game with my two main characters (renegade and paragon) i'm playing through a third time with a throw away character to see where some of the other choices go, and they can be ugly. i just finished Tali's loyalty mission and gave the evidence to the Quarians, and wow that wasn't easy to watch. Tali was one of my favorite characters from ME1, and to see her go from loving you to hating your guts like that was unsettling. kinda glad she'll probably end up dead in this playthrough anyway (not buying any ship upgrades, picking the wrong people to do the tasks on the suicide mission), because i don't want a pissed off Tali to deal with in ME3

Heh, after about 5 minutes of planet scanning I downloaded a trainer to give me infinite resources. I still went to each planet to explore them and find the missions on them, but I've got no patience for crap like that.

Not sure how this game is considered an RPG, at all. The leveling up is completely arbitrary and the upgrades are just guided unlocks. It's a linear third person shooter with lots of dialogue, basically. And as a shooter, it isn't nearly as interesting/exciting as titles like Uncharted 2.
Not saying it's bad, I'm quite enjoying it (BIG action/adventure fan), but the reviews seem very inflated and inaccurate.

I think you're not going to have a ME3 save if you follow this path.

just finished it with Shepard intact, so i have my save. not many others survived though, only Samara, Grunt, Miranda, and Zaeed made it out. it was particularly satisfying seeing Jacob take a bullet, why does Bioware always have to put in a soft male character in their games?

I don't get the love for Uncharted 2. I played for 3 hours one night, and when I went to check my progress I beat half the game. Not saying that it is a bad thing but it was boring, and the shooting is terrible. Uncharted 2 is extremely over-rated, I can't believe how many people think it is the definitive game of 2009. Assassin's Creed 2 is better in every aspect, and it only won a few awards.
Mass Effect 2 is leaps and bounds better than UC2. I will agree, they took A LOT of the RPG elements out, but it is still an amazing game. If they go back to some of the stuff from ME1 and put them back into ME3, with the upgraded stuff from ME2, then ME3 could be a masterpiece.

For some reason I assumed you weren't doing the loyalty quests either.

i felt the first Uncharted was one of the most overrated games of all time, it was a terrible game IMO. and i've yet to see anyone post any evidence that the 2nd game is any better. when you look at the gameplay mechanics, story telling, and especially replay value, i just can't see how you can even compare Uncharted to Mass Effect
i liken Uncharted to the big Hollywood blockbuster war movie, full of special effects and in your face action, but that you only really watch once and done. whereas Mass Effect in my mind is like Band of Brothers, an arcing story with a huge emphasis on personality and character development, where the small details are just as important as the big events (meaning you can watch/play them through a 2nd and 3rd time and still pick up things you missed the first time around)

Uncharted 2 is a masterpiece of design and production. Absolutely superb writing, pacing, acting, action set-pieces, story, graphics, and orchestrated soundtrack. Typically exciting gunplay broken up nicely with solid platforming elements and the occasional puzzle.
It's not only won awards from the mainstream media, but also just took home TEN awards (every presentation award and overall game of the year) from the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences. These are the people that actually make games, the peers in the industry.
Saying you don't like Uncharted because of your specific tastes is one thing, but calling it a bad or overrated game at this point is just foolish. It deserves every ounce of recognition it's received and will continue to receive.

Agree completely. Uncharted and Uncharted 2 are 2 of the most enjoyable single player games I have played. Wish they were longer, but that's just me beeing greedy

After reading all the good stuff about this game in this thread I decided to download the first Mass Effect from Steam yesterday and I got a couple hours of playing in. All the interaction between people is something I haven't done in a third person shooter before and it's very interesting. Building and leveling up a character is something that is missing from lots of shooters and I like so far how this game has incorporated it. Hopefully by the time I have played through it I will like it enough to pick up the second one.

That's because Mass Effect is an RPG, not a shooter.

so i went through starting another character in ME2 today to check out the new DLC Overlord (which is fantastic), and the game said it had to do an update. i didn't know what it actually did though until i tried scanning my first planet, and wow BioWare definitely listened to it's fans. the scanning retical is now twice as big and you can move it twice as fast, it makes scanning an entire planet incredibly quick. should be a great relief for those with the console versions who can't get an infinite resource hack like PC users can, planet scanning is no longer an incredibly boring timesink. it's great to see a company identify gameplay flaws in their games and fix them in the current version, without waiting to do it in the sequel

The update made the scanner way easier.
The overload dlc was awesome, the ending was freaking terrific!
You should try beating it on insane, it took me forever, so hard!
