Panthers sign 8

[Caged Great]

Inspired by Simmer's signing of John Tripp, plus having the cap space to sign a bunch of players due to several guys on the IR, allowed me to sign 8 new players.


Center - Cody Almond - 20 - Currently in the NHL
Center - Gabriel Dumont - 19 - Has 39 goals and 73 points in the QMJHL
Center - Mike Hoffman - 20 - Has 38 goals and 74 points in the QMJHL
Right Wing - Patrik Zackrisson - 22 - Has 16 goals and 32 points in the SEL
Right Wing - Cameron Atkinson - 20 - Has 18 goals and 35 points in the NCAA
Defense - Joel Chouinard - 19 - Has 19 goals and 61 points in the QMJHL
Defense - Thomas Larkin - 19 - Has 3 goals and 17 points in the NCAA (6'5")
Defense - Michael Sdao - 20 - Has 4 goals and 7 points in the NCAA (6'4")

I focused on getting some prospects that were putting up big numbers regardless of the league they're playing in order to get some prospect depth and maybe get lucky.

Also, in addition to Almond, Matt Martin and Andrew MacDonald who were signed at the beginning of the year have made the NHL and are playing decent minutes with the Isles.

Have to have something positive with how bad my team is.

Atlanta signed a player today as well. Mats Zuccarrelo-Aasen who is playing for Norway in the Olympics. He has had calls from the Hawks and Red Wings to sign with them.

Solid signings...Even if one of them makes it the work to track down all 8 pays off. I was looking at Dumont myself but decided I needed a defenseman more and signed John Ramage from the USA WJ team.

I was going to sign him but his size scared me off.

Colorado signed Ondrej Roman this month. Had a great world junior and just signed an entry level deal with the Stars. Looks like a diamond in the rough.

Panthers swap Defensive prospects, buying out Greg Pateryn for David Kolomatis. Kolomatis is putting up decent offensive numbers in the AHL for Manchester, despite being drafted as an overager in the 2009 draft.

Thrashers sign Stephane Da Costa who is playing in the NCAA and is being touted as one of the top 3-4 college players who will be signed by NHL teams this coming year.
