The gameplay is the best of any EA series. I have more fun playing NHL 10 than any video game I've ever played. Everyone in Idaho even loves the game and nobody here even knows the rules of hockey. Get some perspective guys and realize every game is going to have faults. Whine, whine, whine.

General concensous around the gaminig community is that MLB The Show, FIFA, and NHL are the elite sports games series. So the developers in the eyes of the casual and hardcore sports gamers must be liking what the NHL series has done thus far. There is still a lot EA can do to make the game more realistic and fun of course, but they haven't been lacking the right effort or mindset when making the games.

They've really stepped up their game this generation.

I hope so, NHL10 was little different than NHL9. Pretty much the same glitches and weak AI.

That being said, I just snapped my copy in half because it was causing me to waste alot of time during the day playing it.

I would love to see them adopt some of the management type things you get from EHM, the roster/organizational control in that game is amazing. Combine that with the gameplay of NHL10 and I'd probably have to quit my job.

I'd also like to see the BaP mode worked on. It's still so dependent on grades for promotion, I had something like 45 goals in 20 AHL games (after 5 in 3 NHL games) and was a +65ish and was still on the 2nd line in the AHL. Eventually I got called up, but either the ability to put up such huge numbers in the AHL should be cut down (I'm not that great, I score in the NHL but not like that) or there should be some recognition of the production. It would also be nice to have some more interaction options (trade demands, more ice time etc.). Road to the show seemed to stall out in the interaction department as well so it'll be interesting to see if they add anything (anyone know if they did?).

Setting line rotations. Auto backup goalie subbing, that kind of stuff would be great for gm mode.

Would breaking sticks be a kind of quirky, but neat addition to future games?

It would be cool, but everyone would complain that it happens too much. They should just concentrate on increasing the control you have over the players and better computer AI.

I would bet I have played over 300 hours of nhl10. They should just let me help design the game.

i think there would be 2 big hurdles to having it in game.

1 - a good portion of people would hate the feature. i can see the ultra competitive folks getting super pissed in versus or eashl when their stick breaks and causes them to lose. so while many of us think it would be cool, i think its too controversial still to use.

2 - its a whole new set of animations that would have to be created to make it look realistic. i don't see them dropping those kind of resources into making it happen. and if they just had a guy with regular animations but no stick, i would prefer they not even do it. and considering they get like 1 new goalie animation for gameplay each year, i think they are already too slow; something like this would set them back a year or two!

couple things I miss from older games.

Helmets falling off, Broken glass,

I would love to see a bit of blood in the game. Also I love the broken stick idea.

I think these are all great things.

I used to love popping some guy's helmet off with a big hit.

Definitely won't see blood in the game. That'll bump the rating up to Teen.

I'd love to see double minors though (kinda need blood for that), the ability to lose your stick/break your stick, the ability for the net to come off its moorings, the ability to actually run into the goalie and have interference penalties.

And like the Show is suppose to have, reviewable plays would be pretty sweet.

Seriously disappointed with this game overall. I jumped and bought it right away, but if I would have known more about it I would have stuck with playing '09.

To me I like playing online, it is how the game gets the most gameplay. I've never cared for single player sport games. I do like playing against friends the most (on and off line). With my friends, the ones who know how to play it's great and the rivalries grow. Playing with friends who don't know how to play is useless, because they can't score a goal at all (
It is seriously too hard for people to score in the game. I get that it is getting more realistic and thus scores aren't normally 7-6 or something, but most of the games I play are 2-1 or something. If a game is high scoring it's against my non-playing friends, or against me online with someone who keeps doing the same move over and over because it is a crazy percentage (some call glitch) goal.
With my friends who play we get into tight scoring games, and it always seems like the tie is broken well into the third by what seems to be a luck goal (person did nothing too special or out of the ordinary to get it, and the other person did nothing really wrong to deserve a goal against).

I can't really tell what differences there are between this game and '09. It is definitely harder to score goals for the average person; thus glitch goals are more predominant. Also board play needs a huge overhaul (or be ridden of altogether) I don't see how it simulates board play and not holding.

Can young kids play this game? It just seems like there are so many buttons and just overall skills involved (video games and hockey) that a 6-7 yr old probably couldn't fully grasp.
I grew up with "Ice Hockey" and "Blades of Steel" for the NES. Those were the sport games I played. Basically no skill, but loads of fun. I played a few games the the SNES and Sega as well. So essentially I've been casually playing hockey games since I was probably 4-5 or something.

About half of the high sticking penalties are double minors, so that's already in the game. I would also love the ability to run the goalie. Although it would create a lot of bogus interference calls, so it's another one that is tough to incorporate into the game.
