The final result is great, no doubt, but the fact is, he couldn't turn it up while the other three teams did.

Awesome result for Canada. Contrary to popular belief, there are events where you can have a good result and not win a medal. It wouldn't have been a shock if Canada didn't even qualify for the finals and they end up in 4th. What a disappointment they are.
Yeah, typical Canadian attitude at the Olympics. I'm sure we'll all remember and talk about our male skiiers ALMOST winning so many medals down the road.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009%E2...ntry_World_Cup

What in the overall standings suggests that Canada should even be in that race? Kershaw is 27th in the world. Harvey isn't even listed in the top 30.

Complaining about Canada finishing 4th in cross-country skiing is basically akin to Germany complaining about ice hockey if they upset Canada, then Russia, but lost in the semis because they couldn't "turn it up when it mattered".

If only we could have won a medal in cross-country skiing. We could than truly be a great country. Rats...

Typical ignorant attitude that expects two guys ranked 27th and unranked (out of the top 30) in the world and to somehow pull a medal out of their ass and bitch when they only finish 4th.

The other guy is ranked 39th.

These guys weren't expected to get a sniff of the platform, maybe it was their extra gear that got them into 4th place with a chance.

Every Canadian who doesn't quite get a medal isn't a failure.

Even the ones who perhaps should have gotten a medal but didn't haven't necessarily "settled" for where they finished.

Too look at this 4th place and assume they didn't have the killer instinct is being really disrespectful.

If you go to http://www.ctvolympics.ca/ and scroll to the bottom where they list the athletes that are competing in events today they list Dion Phaneuf. And he looks like he's wearing a Team Canada jersey.

Ha, I bet they got him mixed up with figure skater Cynthia Phaneuf, who is competing today.

Oh, I just checked there and Dion, is gone, Cynthia is in.

wah, wah, wah.

They were leading with 2.5k left. All I said was that it was a good result, but shame they didn't have that extra gear.

Then a bunch of uppity people began crying.

"as usual, lacking that extra gear when it was needed" isn't the same as saying it's a shame they had an extra gear. It's a shot at guys who don't deserve it because of what other athletes did last week.

And the Canadians were leading at a point in the race where there were 10 teams with-in 2-3 seconds of each other. Norway/Germany could've pulled away whenever they wanted to, but chose the final lap to do so.

The girlfriend loves this competition... Hopefully Virtue and Moir pull through and win gold. I think they have the ability, they seem clutch.
