Default Cleveland acquires Antawn Jamison in 3-team deal

I know CP is a fiery hotbed for NBA talk, so I thought this was important to mention.

Sources are saying that Cleveland has landed UNC Alumni, Antawn Jamison in a 3-team deal involving the Wizards and Clippers. Washington receives Al Thornton (from LAC), Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Cleveland's 1st round pick, Drew Gooden goes to the Clippers and Cleveland acquires Sebastian Telfair (from LAC) along with Antawn.

Cleveland improves and shows Lebron once again that they're committed to keeping him. Antawn will definitely pull some defenses away from Lebron.

This basically means Amare remains in Phoenix and at this point, who knows where he'll go. rumors point to Miami, but I personally don't feel he'd be a good fit on that squad.

Wow. I really like Washington's return in this case. Thornton and Cleveland's (possibly) late 1st plus a throwin now in big Z seems like a good return. Jamison is a solid player and will be good for Cleveland's push too (and a good character fella). Can someone tell me where the Clippers come into play in this whole thing? Seems like they got nothing out of it.

Agreed, nice for both Washington and Cleveland, and nice to see Jamison get a chance to play for a contender. He's definitely the one guy who didn't deserve to be park of the Wizards imbroglio.

Also the pieces are starting to fall into place for Bosh staying in Toronto. If this move convinces James to stay in Cleveland and also results in Amare going to Miami, that means Bosh either needs to go to alone to a team like NY or NJ, or let Colangelo work out a sign-and-trade.

i haven't seen Telfair play lately but he was awesome before. If he can still play the same way the last time I've seen play, then Cleveland will kick butt with Jamison and Telfair being added. I guess the Big Z is no longer a Cavs.

I wonder if the Raptors will make a move? If they ever I think they need a big center who can play minutes so they can let CB4 play power forward.

Can anyone think of a reason why the Clippers would make this move? Like most here, I like it for the Cavs and the Wizard. It should be real interesting seeing where Amare will end up tomorrow, he had a monster game tonight and can be a massive addition to a playoff contender.

Lots of rumours that the Clippers are waiving Gooden. So Gooden gets 30 days off and then will likely sign somewhere else, and the Clippers get (when you consider that they shipped Camby for expirings) a whole lot of cap space in the upcoming offseason.

Also speculation that the Wizards will waive Ilgauskas, he'll take his 30 days, and then sign back on with Cleveland for the stretch run.

Big Z is likely getting bought out by the Wiz and heading back to the Cavs.

Cavs give: 1st, Big Z
Cavs get: Jamison, Telfair

Wiz give: Gooden, Jamison,
Wiz get: Thornton, 1st

Clips give: Thornton, Telfair
Clips get: Gooden

So when Big Z kills his 30 days after getting bought out, the Wiz would've gotten Thornton for their only remaining decent player. The Clips get nothing if Gooden is leaving as well. The Cavs load up. You gotta love the NBA trades. Cavs give up nothing and get a scorer who can stretch the defense and decent backup PG for their late first round pick.

Its sad when NBA trade for money while the other team just loads up.

Looks like there's a deal out there: T-Mac for Kevin Martin (more or less). It's actually Tracy McGrady for Kevin Martin, Sergio Rodriguez, Hilton Armstrong, Kenny Thomas. TMac is basically a lazy bum with back problems and Kevin Martin can't pass for beans. This deal IMO only helps Houston as Martin's scoring touch and quick speed could help any team. McGrady is good if he's healthy and in shape, but in recent years he's a old round man (round is a shape), and is probably suited to be a third option on a championship team. Martin at least has a little more upside at this stage of his career, so I say basically hands down, Houston wins it. Makes little to no sense for the Kings to make the deal when they're not on the verge of being a top contender.

My take on that McGrady Mega-trade:

Looks like the following:

Houston get: Martin (SAC), Jeffries (NYK), Thomas (HOU)
Knicks get: House (BOS), Giddens (BOS), Walker (BOS), Rodriguez (SAC), McGrady (HOU)
Kings get: Landry (HOU), Curry+Mobley (NYK) (or Cardinal+Hughes)
Celtics get: Robinson (NYK), Dorsey (HOU), Marcus Landry (NYK)

Rockets also gets picks and/or right to swap picks

The Knicks are looking to set up shop for the Free Agent Class of 2010. Should be interesting..

McGrady trade done.

Houston gets:
G Kevin Martin
F Jordan Hill
F Jared Jeffries
F Hilton Armstrong
the right to swap 2011 1st round picks w/ NY
2012 NY 1st round pick

New York gets:
G Tracy McGrady
G Sergio Rodriguez

Sacramento gets:
G Larry Hughes
F Carl Landry
F Joey Dorsey

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4924836

Looks like Houston got a lot out of this deal. They unloaded McGrady and got a good scorer in Kevin Martin in return as well as a young forward in Jordan Hill.

^ it actually got better for Houston than the deal I originally thought was the final one. If Sacramento is clearing up cap space, it's a good move (don't know why they would since no big name is going there, but we'll assume they are). If they're doing it as a basketball deal, are they drunk? NY will continue to be NY in this deal, acquiring big name players for the sake of doing so. And I thought they changed their crazy ways. Imagine if Houston decides to deal Yao Ming next year? Foot problems or not he'll still get an immense return not only for basketball ability, but merchandising. Their GM worked some magic today, and I'd like to see what he could do with the bigger asset.

I really don't understand why Sacramento made the deal they did. I've been a fan of the Kings for a while now. Jason Williams and Chris Webber were my two favorite players not named Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. Even though the Kings have sucked since then, and no one from that time is still there, I still follow them. From what I've seen, Geoff Petrie, the Kings GM, believes that Martin and Tyreke Evans can't coexist. This is now Tyreke Evans' team. Like you said though, Houston did a great job today. They might miss Landry because he's great energy off the bench, but they got an expriring contract, a good somewhat young scorer, and the Knicks first round pick from last year, not to mention 2 more in the coming seasons.

Sacramento are under financial pressure, they had their hand forced, but they may be able to throw money at a player to compliment Tyreke Evans (a solid interior presence such as Boozer?). They will also pick up the team option on Landry for next year.
Houston get big forward depth (which they need) and a new SG, which means Ariza is locked in at SF. Hill is a good prospect too, and they get picks. Big windfall for McGrady, Landry and Dorsey (spare parts).
NY get the expiring contract and Rodriguez is their stopgap PG starter when they deal Robinson to the Celtics. Watch NY now get two of the following: James, Wade, Bosh, Boozer, Johnson, and pair that with Lee and possibly McGrady signed at a major discount

Knicks cleared enough cap room to sign two free agents to maximum deals.

Clippers cleared enough to sign one UFA to maximum deal.

Obviously the Cavs, Heat, Raps can retain their guy by re-signing them.

Should be a crazy basketball summer.

I don't think Antawn Jamison is enough to keep Lebron hanging around next season, unless they win the championship.
