a small detail, but i really like how TSN is using the NHL standard of time keeping with the clock counting down, unlike CBC who uses the IIHF method of counting up for international hockey. it always messed me up at first watching games in past Olympics

Current Standings

1. Russia 7 pts +7 (finished)
2. Finland 6 pts +9
3. USA 6 pts +7
4. Czech Rep. 6 pts +3 (finished)
------------------------------
5. Sweden 6 pts +4
6. Canada 5 pts +9
7. Slovakia 5 pts +5 (finished)
8. Switzerland 3 pts -2 (finished)
9. Belarus 3 pts -4 (finished)
10. Norway 1 pt -14 (finished)
11. Germany 0 pt - 9 (finished)
12. Latvia 0 pt -15 (finished)

So we know one matchup for Tuesday #8 Switzerland vs #9 Belarus
Another matchup is probably #7 Slovakia against #10 Norway unless
Canada loses by 5 goals or more

Well that's that, the Czechs played great!!!! We don't have the talent of Russia and Canada, we have some good players but no dynamic players. The czechs played toe to toe with the Russians and dominated the later havlf of the 3rd period and generated many chances.

The quarter will be interesting later on. It looks like the Czechs will be 5th or 6th after the round robin.

I think it's just whatever the clock is in the arena.

So if Canada wins by 2 or more and the Sweden-Finalnd game heads into OT Canada will clinch the number 1 seed.

You should put the separation between 4 and 5 since only 4 teams get byes into the quarterfinals, and the rest have to play the qualification round.

In the long run that win by Russia is probably a better result for Canada because now we are almost guaranteed not to see them until AT LEAST the semis. If they had lost that game there would have been a great possibility for a Canada/Russia quarterfinal especially if we win our game tonight against the US.

Now it's the other way around.. a Canadian loss could set up a Russia-Canada QF

Does anyone think there is any advantage at all for a team like Canada to finish out of the top 4 and have to play a weaker team (say, Norway or Germany or the like) in the qualification round? The reason I mention this is because something like that could give a strong team an extra game to gel, get chemistry, and learn the system ina game situation.

The only cons I can think of are playing back-to-backs going into the quarter-finals and, of course, possibly losing that qualification game somehow.

I don't think there's an advantage in trying to win 4 games in 6 days at this level. Do you really want to finish 6th and play the Germans? Germans have been hitting everything that moves.

Plus Canada would not be the home team from the QF forward since being ranked 6th will always be lower.
