Question about having your vehicle towed
So, I went to a friend's house today to have a BBQ, and upon driving home, find this note on my windshield:
"Hey <expletive>. Park in front of your own <expletive> house. Sincerely, the owner."
I'm up at this friend's place maybe 1-2 times a week, at most for a few hours a time, and usually I just park wherever I can find a spot, so it's not as if I'm parking in front of his house every single day. Obviously, it was enough to annoy him so much that he wanted to let me know, so I won't park there anymore. However, if I happen to forget about said note (or just feel like being a ######) and park in front of their house again, would they have the right to tow me?

Unless there's a private parking sign or signs for residents only...it's a public street

I don't think so... unless you are in the way of his driveway.

Has no right to have you towed unless a permit is require to park there.
But I'd watch out for potential keying. The guy sounds like an asshat who would lose his cool pretty quickly.

There are some really angry, anal, bored people who have nothing better to do.
His life sucks, so he's a parking nazi.
Ignore him, and enjoy the hilarity that is his life.

You need to leave a note in his mailbox. "Dear a$$hat, please quit parking your butt ugly house beside my nice car."

You simply need to be 1.5 meters from his driveway. Make sure you have that distance. You should post his address on line and we can bump it. One day someone will see this thread and realize what a ###### he is.

Perfectly legal or not, I can't stand a-holes who park in front of my house on a consistent basis, because they've got piles and piles of sh*t in their garage, a 3rd wheel on their driveway, running some kind of chop shop in their garage.
Seeing their piece of crap car in front of my house is an eye sore, and takes up parking for my guests when they come to my place.
And yes, I know it's perfectly legal, and I don't mind if it's a "one off" occurrence.
Seems that when I was growing up in my old community, it was an unwritten rule that you didn't park in front of your neighbors house. It was the respectful thing to do.

A 5th wheel? Just curious.

Yes, I meant 5th wheel, but it's not uncommon to see my neighbor with a piece of sh*t sitting in his driveway, jacked up with at least one wheel missing. So there was some truth in what I said.

I would be tempted to ring his doorbell, and ask him to come around to neighbours houses and ask them who wouldn't mind you parking in front of.
Or even better, I would take that note into the police station. Tell them you are very offended by the explative, and are concerned about the safety of your vehicle. Odds are they won't do anything- but then if something does happen to your car you can note that you warned the police about it. Then take the homeowner to court for the damages.
Yeah, it would be so much better if he wasn't a jerk about it. I got one of those notes one time and the guy was a jerk, so I rang his doorbell and told him that he should be a little nicer if he wants people to not park in front of his house.

Aw man, it would be almost worth it to pick up a $100 beater from a police auction or something and park it right there and leave a copy of the city's bylaws about street parking taped to the inside of the windshield.
That having been said, I agree with Newts.

If it happens on a consistent basis, I'll agree with you 100%. That being said, one off's do occur, especially in newer communities, where parking is not as abundant. For example, say you are attending a friend's house on the street below (note, this is just a random street I pulled off of Google Street View)
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sour...80.76,,0,15.22
If this friend invited more people over than parking allows in front of their house / on their driveway, then obviously, one of their neighbors is going to have a car parked in front of their house. Does that gave that neighbor the right to write angry notes demanding people not park in front of their house? I don't think it does.

This street view pull is an excellent example of what I'm talking about. Note the house with the white sedan and and gray SUV in the driveway. Note the garbage piled up on the side of the house. I'm willing to bet this guys garage is overflowing with crap, hoarders style.
Then note the Honda that across the street. A likely parking spot for people visiting the said house, because there is never room in the driveway. A likely parking spot for a visitor who is too lazy to turn around after entering the circle, and parks in front of the house across the street. Mr. Honda may only visit once or twice a week for a couple of hours, but he's not the only guy that visits. It's a constant stream of a-holes, too lazy to turn around and park in front of their friends house.
In this case, the neighbor has every right do be a d*ck head.
This example hits too close to my home.

wow someone has entitlement issue, heaven forbid someone else might have friends and invite them over to visit or even worse hold a party, the nerve of some people. I can't imagine how much you'd flip out if you lived in a older neighbourhood with lots of suited houses and little off street parking. Some days I have to park 4!!! spots down from our house.
You bought/rented the house dude, not the street in front of it.

If a "steady stream of a-holes" parked in front of your house, wouldn't it be a good idea to discuss the issue with the owners of the house with the white sedan and grey SUV? When Mr. Honda receives your angry note, they probably think that you're just being a crotchety old ######.
As well, what if you decided to throw a party where your guests had to park in front of your neighbors house because there was no room on your driveway / in front of your house? Bit hypocritical wouldn't you say?

The scenario you are referencing with regards to suited housing, does not apply to me. That's why I didn't reference it. Suited neighborhoods/small lots/no garages...I get it.
