i won't criticize an athlete at their first Olympic games, or who isn't a favorite (despite what CTV keeps trying to cram down our throats) that comes up short. but when that elder Hamlin is the world record holder for the 1000m short track? there's no other word to describe that performance than choke

I think they are getting their game back.
They force Murdoch to only one, it is 4-3 GB, but I feel like things are turning around for the better for Martin.
Go Canada!

what's Canada's medal pace compared to Torino now? every winter Olympics since 1988 Canada has increased their medal count. wouldn't that just define this country to have the only off year be the one at home

I believe last year we had 7 medals to start the day today. However, assuming the sched. is similar, we picked up several throughout, so we're probably not too far behind the pace.

We'll get medals on skating relays....probably a bunch of bronzes. Like someone said earlier, Canada dominates or at least does well at sports that will get us a maximum of 4 medals and that is Hockey and Curling.

We're worse in long and short track speedskating.
Everything else is about the same.

I don't even think the bros did that bad - 3rd and 4th ranked in the world so the performances weren't horrible.
Denny Morrison and Hollingsworth on the other hand.... massive chokes

I know everyone is really upset, but we have to remember that this is similar to what happend in Torino. Canada had a horrible first week then really started bringing in the medals in the second week. We finished 2nd in the medals then, so lets hope for a similar result for week two!

i wouldn't be nearly as upset over all of this if it weren't for that stupid Own The Podium crap that we've had to endure for the last 6 years. to keep pushing that goal, getting an entire country's hopes up for a massive Olympic success, then to have brutal letdown after brutal letdown? it's like Canada challenged countries around the world to top them in the hometown Olympics, then forgot to show up
i like the summer Olympics much better, where no one expects a damn thing from Canada and every piece of hardware we get is a bonus. soon as some pressure to win is applied our athletes get crushed by it

Ohno just insisted on NBC that he's the best conditioned and easily had the race won but he slipped a bit and lost all his speed.

What I don't get is that half of these athletes train in Canada for Frick sakes. Why the he'll do we keep getting blown out? We have world class facilities here and still we aren't even close for 90% of the events. Hopefully these olympics teach us a lesson to actually focus on other things than hockey and curling and get some medals in speed skating and skiing next olympics.
I am really disappointed as this is getting embarassing. Men aren't good enough to win a medal in speedskating (and women really), we keep losing possibilties for double medals, how the fricken hell do you have almost all the Canadian crashing or barely finishing in downhill skiing events?? They have been there and done that how many times?? To top things off hollingsworth chokes big and the bobsled flips.
Waiting for the next olympics, embarassing!
