Actually, Calgary has nothing to do with the vitriol Vancouver has been getting by the press.
It was the Calgary Herald who published an article telling the British media to STFU after slagging on these Winter Games so bad.
I'm pretty sure we went out of our way to expedite a Zamboni out to the Olympic Oval in Richmond in record time, as well.
This has absolutely nothing to do with an inferiorty complex. Infact, I'm pretty sure Vancouver should be thanking us for trying to help.

Here's some good reading for all you Van cry babies:
http://www.torontosun.com/sports/van.../12870301.html
"Before the four-note ‘O Canada’ fog horn had sounded in Coal Harbour, protesters were breaking windows at The Bay downtown and causing a disturbance that some media reports were characterizing as a riot.
If it was a fully-accredited riot, then Vancouver now has the trifecta of an Olympic riot to go with a Grey Cup riot and a Stanley Cup riot."

These games ARE fine and unless you're here, you really can't go on what outside reporters are saying. If that's the case, we should all believe the crap that Larry Brooks, Bruce Dowbiggin, Tony Gallagher, etc.....write in their columns.
If you're basing your opinion on what you see from televsion, say that. Don't come on here thinking you know what you're talking about, because you clearly don't.

Had to. If your post was further down I wouldn't have bothered.
There does seem to be a lot of problems, however, I think it's that we are close to them. Previous Olympics may have had issues we never heard of.

When I read articles that are comparing the Olympics in Vancouver to the Disastrous Atlanta games there is cause for concern.
I'm not blaming the city of Vancouver, or the people of Vancouver, but it sounds like the Vancouver Olympic committee has done a really poor job in terms of handling the games, combine that with the non winter like weather and its not great.
The big question at the closing ceremonies is the remarks by the head of the IOC, every city wants to hear him declare these games as the best ever, Vancouver might get a finger bang followed by we declare the Olympics closed.

So, no one's gonna discuss the actual topic? Ok, not surprised I guess.
You Calgarians looking for every opportunity to bash Vancouver on things that have nothing to do with Vancouver are really pathetic.
I'm a born and raised Calgarian, proud of it and you guys just make us all look stupid and jealous.

I think alot of it has been overblown because it's in Canada in the age of the Internet and social media. Members of the new York times as well as foreign athletes have been all over the Vancouver radio waves, all praising the games. The new york times writer even wondered why people were being so hard on Vancouver.
A coach of one of the Dutch speed skating team wad Also on the radio today saying the problems at the oval ate way overblown, and that the ice is some of the best in the world, and the athletes competing there are saying great things about it. And besides fog and dome rain on the second night , the actual courses at cypress have been good.

Seriously? You post that after saying

Open your eyes dude. Things are not fine. I get that you're upset because you think some of the criticism is unfair, but like VANOC you would seriously benefit from realizing that these games are having problems.
Pretending they don't exist while our visitors are getting screwed just makes us look like a bad host.

You should consider changing your smoking baby avatar to a crying baby avatar. The Vancouver bashing on this thread came after the insecure Vancouver posters made an assumption and came in whining. It is the west coast contingent that comes off looking pathetic, as usual.

You guys are so insecure that you are simply assuming "enough is enough" means "Holy crap, look at how incompetent Vancouver is!", and therefore MUST argue to the end of your days how "great" Vancouver is.
|
"You guys"?
Perhaps what you don't realize is that I was born in calgary and have lived here all my life. I'm not attached to Vancouver the city whatsoever. Don't assume my hockey loyalty stretches to every aspect of that city.
My point was that people are finding ridiculous reasons to bash Vancouver and their Olympic games (perfect example being the original post). I'm not saying there haven't been reasons to be frustrated but just as many have said, that's not exclusive to these games.
Vancouver is a great city but I would be defending whichever city it was if the criticisms against it were this lame.
