I shoot righty, But I can bat on both sides of the plate.

I tried lefty for a couple of shifts in a drop in and I was okay with stick handling but shooting was another area that I couldn't get into.

Paul Kariya is a lefty but I've seen him go through a bit of a practice shooting right and he didn't look out of place.

Had a look at the Olympic rosters and interesting to note the Russians don't have a single R-shooting defenceman in Vancouver, and the Swedes, Finns and Slovaks only one apiece.

I never heard of that before, alot of us were encouraged to be right handed because left handed things were hard to find...

I shoot a rifle and bow left handed because I can only aim with my left eye, both eyes are equal.

Now thats just weird

I'm the exact opposite of my Dad. I shoot left, bat left and golf left. He shoots right, bats right and golfs right. I'm right handed, he's left.

Golf Left - the way way dad golfed, so he taught me using his clubs
Hockey Left - don't know why exactly
Bat right

I'm right handed.

I am left handed in absolutely EVERYTHING, except hockey. I've never figured that one out.

Interesting. I'm right-handed and I shoot right, and can bat both ways although right-handed is better.

I also golf right, and throw just about everything with my right hand. Write with my right hand. Shoot a gun with my right hand on the trigger finger.

It’s Not Political, but More Canadians Are Lefties
The New York Times
By JEFF Z. KLEIN
VANCOUVER, British Columbia — What is the difference between a Canadian and an American? The old question is coming up again here at the Olympics, with answers involving eagerness for war, ketchup, the pronunciation of toque or the ability to identify poutine and the Tragically Hip.

But none may be so simple as how one holds a hockey stick. According to sales figures from stick manufacturers, a majority of Canadian hockey players shoot left-handed, and a majority of American players shoot right-handed. No reason is known for this disparity, which cuts across all age groups and has persisted for decades..........
It's because Americans pick it up later in life. They get right-handed sticks because they are right-handed. When, as us Canadians know, it's usually the reverse.

That is exactly what i was gonna say. Left hand shot is pretty much the "right" hand of hockey. I can imagine an American parent never being exposed to the sport before, standing at the stick rack at Dicks Sporting goods, picking the right stick since their kid is right handed. It would be an easy assumption to make.

I started right, but my first year in organized hockey the first time I could raise the puck was on the backhand. So my coach at the time said I should be shooting left. Since I used a stick with no curve, I switched to the left. Then one game he had me play right wing so I switched back to right handed shot and have been that way ever since.

I do all sports right handed.
