Those ceremonies were great. My favorites were the snowboarder at the beginning and the Maritime fiddle section, but a lot of it was really cool. You could tell people in the audience were really impressed whenever they zoomed in on their faces. Apparently a different snowboarder broke their collar-bone practicing that jump at the beginning. For all the complaints that haters are throwing at the games, there are a lot more really cool parts.

How can someone look at those pics and bash the ceremonies.

Awesome pics, some great moments there for sure. Hansen coming out of the smoke with the flame in hand was awesome.

Thanks! They did an excellent job on the ceremony. The hydraulic failure is just an unfortunate happenstance.

The prarie salute with Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" was very moving and inspirational to me. I will never forget that. I know people criticise it, but it was worth it if it moved even a fraction of the audience the way it did me. I could have done without that guy's monologue/rap/molson commercial thing though... but hey, I am sure it stirred patriotism in some people

I was under the impression that these were not just actors or performers but actual representatives of their respective first nations groups.

I thought that was the coolest part of the opening ceremony.

I did, this one made me throw up a little.

Wow! I am so proud of my heritage. I cried as I watched our Country giving the respect to the Native People, the true Founding People of our amazing nation, as well as the Metis, our people who were oppressed, removed from their families, and persecuted for so long. To finally celebrate their history and their heritage is to Celebrate the foundation of the Land that I love! The tapestry of this production, clearly represented the tapestry of our land from Vancouver to the East coast of Canada. It is this tapestry that allows us to embrace each other regardless of race, religion, sexuality, and gender...this is what was presented to the world, this is Our Canada Welcoming the world into our small mostly peaceful existence, sorry some of you missed it!
Huh, I could have sworn there is a HUGE first nations component to the Stampede EVERY SINGLE YEAR. It's not like this was the first time ever the history of the first nations was presented...

You're right. Native history/heritage is frequently acknowledged. We pay our lip service and then continue treating them like crap on a day-to-day basis.

I've done a lot of thinking on this issue over the past little while.

I have no idea.
