No, I don't agree, what he says doesn't make very much sense.

I don't know guys. Have you ever met a 4th or 5th generation Canadian? These stereotypes and pretty true actually.
Little do you know most of the people probably on CP are 3rd or 4th generation Canadians.
Well at least speaking for myself. Whenever I hear people from Manitoba/Sask talk, they sound a lot like the writer of this article describes.
EDIT: After re-reading my post, it comes across like I'm making these Stereotypes out to be a "bad" thing. That couldn't be further from the truth. I for one don't mind being stereotyped as "too nice", or "too clean".

i am a 4th or 5th generation Canadian (don't know which, but my mom's side of the family were some of the first Europeans to come to Canada) and i've never heard of half of those stereotypes. what i've found is that the east definitely has their eccentricities (the accent, slang, etc) but the west is fairly americanized. i know i can relate more with family that live in Washington and Montana than those that live in Newfoundland

Well, I have relatives in the LA area, Houston area, and Maryland area. I have never seen any reference to metric in any of those areas. They did tell me that in math and physics in highschool, they did use it, but that was it. I did take public transportation in Houston, although that was 5 years ago, never saw any reference to metric at all. I took public transportation every day in SF for 10 days this past year, never saw one reference to metric there either.

I agree, I'd never heard "House" pronounced "Hoose" or "about" pronounced "aboot" by an actual Canadian until I worked in Ontario. I'd heard the Yanks with their messed up Boston or New York Yankee accents say it mockingly on TV.
Every time I'm down in Vegas and playing at a table, I like to have people guess where I'm from based on my accent. The majority guess that I'm a local or that I'm from California-No one has guessed Canada yet.

WOOSH!
Thanks for explaining that one. I was thinking carbon monoxide poisoning, but that doesn't work because it's electric, so maybe it's like torture for people who don't know it's electric, and they just get the sense of impeding doom...
Speaking of Canadian stereotypes, anybody watch the Simpsons last night? They had 'Millhoose' and a Canadian version of Nelson.

And I'm the exact opposite. Hell, I've had people from Ontario poke fun at what they considered an uber-Canadian accent. It all depends what part of the country you're from.

I found the article hilarious. In fact, I laughed my arse off. We DO have an inferiority complex. Why else would we all discuss what someone thinks about us. We are obsessed with what people think of Canadians

It tends to be more "oat and aboat" than "oot and aboot", and I find that it gets stronger the further east the person is from. The further west you get, the more we tend to sound like western Americans.
Earlier this season, I had a woman sitting next to me at a Flames game who had a very thick "Canadian" accent. I'm not sure where she was from, but she's the first person I've ever heard who said "oot". I almost burst out laughing when the Flames were pinned in their zone and she yelled out "GET IT OOT!"

Apparently he got a lot of mail about the column. So he wrote another to piss everyone off more haha

Note: He makes fun of Canadians for saying sorry "sore-ee" (???) like ten times. He also brings up how hot his naked wife is.

no, I got that part. I wasn't sure why you said he should have used a Toyota though. You do know that a Prius is a Toyota, right?

Come on, this is funny:
The big, emotional moment -- the lighting of the Official Olympic Giant Reefers -- was botched. Only three of the Official Olympic Giant Reefers came up, and points are deducted for going for the quad and pulling only a triple. Although I did like torchbearer Wayne Gretzky being taken to the lighting of the Official Olympic Giant Outdoor Reefers in the back of a pickup truck. It was just him back there, holding on to a steel bar, riding through town. That is what's known as a Canadian limo.

Otherwise, I found some of it pretty funny.
I've only heard ABM at Scotiabank anyway, and I think it sounds weird.
