Soooo why is this guy a traitor? I thought it was just that he wouldn't give an interview or something?

Anyone have a link or anything?

I call him a traitor because I'm a petty, petty man.

Unless I'm mistaken, he was born and raised in BC but now skis for Australia. Also, I heard he makes a living by writing pop-up software/adware which makes him a jerk regardless of his nationality.

He's not a traitor. He had to make a decision at 15 years old to ski for Australia since his business would not have allowed to take place had he stayed competing for Canada. He is now a millionaire. Can't fault him one bit for that.

Being Australian isn't the traitor part. He trashes Canada in all his interviews and refused to be interviewed by CTV. Even shunned a press conference cause it's here in Vancouver.

I don't know if it's just an act, but he dismisses that Canada even exists.

They are showing it on NBC again and listening to these announcers are way better! They sounds like they are from the X-treme Network or something. Suits the spot better IMO.

Yep. Skiing at a high level vs skiing at a high level and making millions. Pretty easy decision if you ask me.

Millionaire by creating malware and spyware.

Also, like GirlySports said he denied interviews, etc. When they said to him "How is it like being home", he dismissed it completely "this isn't home".

He probably hates Canada, and now that we won Gold and he got Silver, he will probably go home and cry like a bitch.

Oh thanks for explaining that. I did not know about that part. If that is the case, then that is low.

But why did he duck the canadian media?? Why would he only talk to Australian media?? Because he is a ######. He made his point by leaving Canada for Australia, he doesn't have to make a point by being a dick to Canada.

He may not be a traitor, but he made his money off adware, malware and spyware. And that puts him right up there with murderers and spammers in terms of people I would most like to see thrown into the burning fires of hell.

All the sweeter then that he got unseated by a Canadian!

Screw you, ######bag.

Wait, what? He couldn't have a business and compete for Canada at the same time but can for Australia? Not sure I follow. Anyway, yeah I agree, I wouldn't fault him for trying to keep his own business.

He looked pretty upset, but I imagine that's because he wanted gold and ended up with silver.

Yea, thats why I dislike the guy. I don't care if youre going to represent another country, but don't trash Canada, its pretty tasteless. CTV calls him a "Mystery" for refusing interviews from CTV, I think hes just being an ass.

Our victory was just that much sweeter knocking him from gold.

I wonder if it's that he couldn't have a business or couldn't have THAT business. It may just be that the whole writing malware as a business wasn't going to fly in Canada but I don't know.

Earlier on CTV, it showed him win gold in Torino (I think) and he pretty much had the same look. No smile or anything.

There really is no point to avoiding any type of media.

Not big bad questions! Oh the humanity.

Canada has only so much money and coaching time for amateur athletes. At 15, there were plenty of others that were just as talented. This guy was spending way too much time with his "internet business" and not enough time practicing. Given the number of people that were right there, ready and willing to spend the time to practice, Begg-Smith was taken off the Canadian team.

Australia put him on their team and let him do thing his way as their talent pool wasn't nearly as deep. However, Begg-Smith's fortune has given him the free time and resources to get to the top of his sport.
