Not exactly the point of the article, but proceed with your wailing and gnashing.

What makes him sound like a ###### the most is saying we have an inferiority complex to Americans. I don't think so!

• Speak Canadian. ATMs are ABMs. Street hockey is "shinny." Butt is "arse." Beer is "brew." Stuff is "whatnot." Newfoundlanders are "Newfies." Never say the "g" in "ing." And yay is not a cheer, it's a measurement, as in: "I'm lookin' for my malamute, about yay big and yay long?"

I think we have to take time to laugh at ourselves once in awhile, not get so worked up over everything. I found it funny, and many of his examples were pretty spot on.

I'm fine with it, although if Talking To Americans has taught us anything, A good amount of them will actually not realize this is a humorous article, and take everything that is mentioned as fact. Sadly, its just bad stereo type after bad stereo type.

Some people here are just shut off from the rest of the world. It's no different when some canadian folk says something about americans.
Take it with a grain of salt and move on with life.
I thought it was pretty funny. In the north part of the US you hear people talking like that all the time.

While I disagree with his assertion about the inferiority complex, the article was clearly about how much he enjoys Canada and all of the little idiosyncrasies that separate it from the U.S.
Sure, he took a few liberties with some Canadian stereotypes. Rick Reilly is a writer that attempts to inject humor (or humour) into his work. He's writing for his audience, many of which have never been to Canada, and likely cannot fathom why anyone would live in a godforsaken country that they think is snowed in 10 months out of the year.
He's opening eyes to some things that are refreshing, and in his mind great about Canada. If you were instantly offended by this article, methinks the inferiority complex line hit close to home.

I don't think it's that bad, it actually made me laugh a few times.
But I don't call them ABM's, I say ATM. I say street hockey, not shinny. This is kinda like Americans saying soda, not all of them do, some say pop.
I just assume a lot of Americans will think these are facts.
Theres nothing in this article that hasn't already been said before, but it's funny how they have to say it so many times. We can watch this article on the Simpsons tomorrow night! Haha.

how many american cities made the top 10 in the economists most livable cities in the word? we have nothing to be jealous over, just laugh with the article and move on

Meh I got a laugh out of it. The only thing I'd disagree with is the ABM/ATM thing...and shinny is just hockey played outside.

I thought he did a great job at pointing out some of the idiosyncrasies of Canada, the only one he really got wrong was shinny...shinny is on ice

I closed the page as soon as I saw it was Rick Reilly, the guy is pretty much the worst writer in all of sports. He used to be pretty good actually, but he's adopted such a tired act that anything he writes is an absolute joke. Pretty much summarizes the columnists at ESPN actually.
