I was there...watched the game at Pacific Coliseum then for about 40 minutes after had a great time partying on the streets until we got to Robson and chaos broke out... it took 2 hours just to get out of DT back to the comfort of the Burbs.
So can reading posts that have nothing to do with the subject at hand, yet you take time out of your day to do so. Interesting. Dont like it? Ignore.
We get it. You think you're right. You always think you're right.
And how can I not read your petty arguments in here. Half the damned posts in this thread are you challenging others to prove you wrong.
Anyway, in the interest of the topic, here are a few pics of the cops... protestors were a touch removed from my camera view, though you may see them in the upper left of the first pics.

There is definitely a bigger protest influence in Vancouver than other Canadian cities except for maybe Montreal (as has been mentioned). I mean this is where groups like Greenpeace started. And usually that's a good thing.
But these idiots don't even know what they're protesting about. Sure they have their usual laundry list (money being spent in wrong places, inequality, etc.) but you could say that about just about any enterprise or event. Their not mad at the olympics, it's not like they are killing whales or poisoning third world children. Their just mad at all the usual stuff that's going on anyway, and are using this as an excuse to get violent.
The way I look at it is these people, if seriously committed to their causes could have USED the olympics to do some of the good they are always talking about. They have a city full of goodwill and money right now. They could have used that or worked with the city and IOC to fund projects, revitalize neighbourhoods, increase awareness for issues worldwide.
But no, they go and break a few windows and think their doing the world some great good.
They aren't activist, they're asshats.

Its a real shame to see that protests are going on, when this is supposed to be a celebration for our nation. Unfortunately Protests happen, especially during big events like the Olympics.
I think its a little short sighted to think that if the Games were held in Calgary there would be zero protests and everything would be peachy keen. It doesn't matter where the Olympics are held. There is going to be protests. So far, the protests have been minor (Could be ALOT worse) and if it wasn't for that 1 percent that join protests for the simple reason of causing as much chaos/damage as possible I think the protests would be pretty peaceful.
As already mentioned, this 1 percent tend to be true terrorists. People that have anarchist tattoos and travel to ANY big event they can get to, regardless of what City the event is in, with hopes of causing as much chaos as possible. It's a little ignorant to solely blame Vancouverites for these types, and even more short sighted to blame Vancouverites/the city of Vancouver, when its the VAST vast minority that are causing this unnecessary violence.
Bottom line is that If your going to blame Vancouver and Vancouver alone for all the problems of these Olympics, you shouldn't be taking credit for everything that Vancouver does well, as a Canadian success. You can't have it both ways.
Were in this together As a country, and hopefully this will be an Olympics to remember for all the right reasons.

Another brilliant drive-by from you. Well done..or maybe all you have to contribute which would explain many things.
deal with the subject at hand would ya?
What subject? Um, ok, ya, idiot protesters are breaking stuff. I'm sorry, what's the point again?
What? You pissed off that you've been spelling "could have", "could've", "would have" and "would've" wrong for ages now?
Look, you made a totally obtuse statement, tried to twist it to some sort of fact, and still you remain your usual pedantic self. Hey, at least try to have a sense of humour about it. The worst thing is that it's not that important, you made your point, yet you still beat the damned horse into the ground.

You make a good point about people not being able to have it both ways and you are right about that.
But I do believe if the olympics were here there wouldn't be protests like that. There might be some protesters from other cities and yes a few from here, but it wouldn't be inflamed because there wouldn't be any mob mentality. Vancouver has been for a long time, for better or worse, a place of higher levels of activism and rioting. And Calgary, for better or for worse, has long been known as a place where people don't get involved enough, and things are often run by the suits and people who just care about money.
Both sides have their pros and cons. And you are right, if the shame is all Vancouvers, so should any success (at least if you discount national funding and volunteers from around the country). But, for the sake of discussion, I really doubt you'd see what you are seeing in Vancouver, if the games were held here.
In fact how do you even know that the donkeys perpetrating things are even from Vancouver?
That's like blaming NY for 9/11.
Just a ridiculous statement.
Because idiots in Vancouver riot over anything and everything.
Canucks win? Let's riot
Canucks lose? Let's riot
Axel Rose cancels a concert? Let's riot...
And Turin, Italy was a winter city? At least Canada is a winter nation.
Tomorrow weather forecast:
Turin: High -1, Low -15
Vancouver: High +9, Low +2

Kind of a good point. Most people I know that move to Vancouver have had "Lack of cold and snow" as one of the top reasons they move there.
However, as many jabs as I have made about the games so far, I still really hope by some miracle they do pull this off and not make a joke of it. It really is Canada's face on the games. A torrential rain storm at the moguls event wasn't such a hot start, but you have to credit their ingenuity to heli-lift tons of snow using Sikorsky helicopters. Seriously, how much is that costing?
Its got to cost at least a few thousand dollars an hour to keep one of those in the air. A little bell 206 civilian helicopter is $1100 per hour.

The most striking memory I have of the G8 meeting in Calgary/Kananaskis a few years ago was a cordon of riot police ringing the Convention Centre in downtown Calgary, standing there bored out of their freaking minds because nothing was happening.
Whether there would have been protests in Calgary or not is definitely impossible to know. But I would put very long odds of there being protests of such a nature that they were international news.
And that is not to trash Vancouver. Ultimately, it is a cultural thing with the two cities. Protests and protesting is not, in itself, a problem. But the groups that bring the entire concept into disrepute are far more prevalent in Vancouver than anywhere else in this country, which is a shame.
I think it's only fair to point out that these "anarchist protesters" that were smashing window's are actually from the USA. They were responsible for a riot in Seattle several years ago and their sole purpose is having conflicts with the police. The only thing I question is why they were let into Canada.
From everything I've heard the buzz in Vancouver is outstanding, with only a few peaceful protests around the city(not including the foreign protest yesterday). People are clearly blowing things out of proportion when we should be enjoying the Olympics being hosted on our own turf.
How your mind came to the connection between local Vancouver protestors (who are prevalent at any given time) and the foreign terrorists of 9/11 is beyond me. Everyone on earth knew these local protest groups would make themselves known. How? Because those same local protest groups said they would. They aren't from Calgary, or anywhere else, they're local.
