New thread topic......best National Anthem rendition ever?
I hate 'Creative license' on sacred stuff, but that was absolutely terrific. Grown man, almost teared, bravo.

I may be in the minority, and I most certainly not judging anyone here...
I will not be watching the opening ceremonies out of respect to the luger who died. The "show must go on" is not an all-encompasing thing. It should have been post-poned for one evening, and without at least tribute and a moment of silence as a start for the fallen athlete, the IOC will look like heartless pigs by the time these games are done.

Good video to start it off by TSN, good idea on the snowboarding entry, and a great singing of the national anthem.
I was hoping they would fly the flag at half mass out of respect to the Nodar Kumaritashvili but what can you do.

Ya I know. I understand we have to say it in both languages but why French first? The majority of our Country speaks English so why not start with English and then repeat it in French. I could see if the games were in Montreal.
Regardless, the 2 hour preview (minus the stupid Mush Music bit) was very well done and so far, the Ceremony looks awesome.

That's an interesting take. Don't personally agree, but I get where you're coming from.
Just as an FYI.....there will be a moment for Mr. Georgia.
Also as an FYI.....lot (most?) of us already know the IOC are heartless pigs.

I thought that's what they were doing at first but then realized they were just raising it really slowly. I think leaving it half mass would have been a subtle classy thing to do.
Side note: I'm watching NBC as I have an unnatural hate for Ben Mulroney and I'd like my TV to survive the evening.

How the hell would that even be possible? I doubt there'd even be a way to do this even if someone wanted too

All I could see was 4 phallic objects when those native structures were getting raised. Heh. Cool ceremonies so far.

Interesting... NBC just mentioned French & English are the 2 official languages of the Olympics (not just Canada).

Dude - did they even cancel the Daytona 500 when Dale Earnhardt died? That guy was more popular than the President in some states and they finished the race.
How - logistically how could they possibly postpone/cancel a show the magnitude of the Opening Ceremonies?? The IOC would get vaporized by all the major world networks
