Default Anyone with contracting experience in Fort Mac

I have done some searches on the internet and have the answers to some of my questions but I have a few more and I want to tap into the collective knowledge of CP. I couldn't find a thread on this, but if there is I apologize.

Background:

I currently work in the Calgary office for a large oil an gas company in Calgary. I work in QA. I am currently a contractor because when I was hired a staff position was not available. There is need for an additional QA guy at our job site in Fort McMurray. I am pretty sure it is another contract position, I need to confirm with the HR lady.

I am just confirming the dates that I would start and I want to get everything organized before I try and make any revisions to my contract. I realize that some companies have procedures they follow for contract revisions but I want to be prepared just in case they ask me what I want my contract revised to.

1) There are a lot more responsibilities at site that I currently do not have in Calgary, what is a reasonable %increase for the move from Calgary to Fort Mac.

2) Can you make money using your personal vehicle at site? If so, what is the usual charge out /day for a truck?

3) Any tips for contract negotiations or areas to focus on so I don't get screwed?

If I think of anything else I will update this thread. If you have any sage council to impart that would be welcome as well.

If it was 3 years ago, I'd say... ask for tons more than you are making now.
But since things have changed. You should see what the HR lady says about it and take it from there.
I would say though that probably about %30 more in wages etc. to be in Fort Mac. Remember it's not Fort Lauderdale.

20% uplift in the minimum if your responsibilities were identical. Since you're taking on more work I would request a 15% increase and 20% uplift. We pay fleet rental of $2000ish a month for pick ups. If you can work that into your contract all the power to you.

Its prison with a purpose. But don't let them snow you with the camp of the future or the best camp in the industry bs. They all suck, you feel trapped everytime you land in Ft. Mac or on the lease.

Anyone living in camp will get a camp living bonus. And some guys don't actually find it that aweful. I have lived in camp plenty, all depends on the group of guys.

1) Don't know what you make now, or what your role will be, but if it's relatively senior, you should expect $75 to $100/hr.

2) Someone answered this, but if you're at camp, they may expect you to bus to site and use a company vehicle on site. Reduces highway traffic. Unless, of course, you're at one of the camps on site.

3) Camp costs are typicall a no brainer, but, because you're a contractor, make sure they are covering costs of flights over and above your hourly wage.

Did you end up taking the position? I'm looking at a camp job myself, and info/opinions would be great.

I didn't, was only a short term job and I couldn't be guaranteed work after that 6 months.
