This is a totally random debate between a coworker and I about when AM106 changed formats. I say it was before before 1992 and he says it was still around then.
Anyone know where we cound find this out? or have any personal experiences that might give either of us some support?

Glen Slingerland - BVLD Radio, Smithers BC 1976-1977; CKIQ Kelowna BC 1977 - 1984; AM106 Calgary AB, PM Drive / APD, Bought out by Standard in 1993 and re-launched as MIX 1060, PM Drive / MD 1984-1994,- PM Drive; 85 radio Max PD/Mornings 1994-1997; 104.9 Star Fm, PM Drive 1997-1998, Mornings 1998-1999; CHWK FM Chilliwack, BC PD/MD/Mornings 2008-Current;
Mix 1060 was good in 1994. They played Weezer, Smashing Pumpkins, etc. Lots of good alternative music that we didn't see again until 92.9 a few years ago.

The most epic moment in Calgary radio history was on Mix1060 around 1996 - They had an author on who wrote a book with 365 different sex acts/positions and had a couple come on the air to try out one of the entries. It was a blow job with a twist (don't remember what), and while they didn't do the act on the air, the guy's response afterward was just priceless. Was all we could talk about in school that day - and I'm betting more than a few people re-enacted it.
Then they went to that moldy oldies format, and CJAY went back to being modern rock rather than classic rock.
One of the Dicks is still in the market - just under a different name.
And you'll also hear the legendary Rick Sadler pop up from time to time on 660News, in addition to doing voice work for the Fan.

They got scared when Standard (now Astrial) got their license to have a Hip Hop/R&B station (Vibe) in Calgary, which was a small chunk of the music they played.
They decided to jump formats to Adult Contemp, and rebrand to The Peak 107.3, and hire a scrappy youngster out of SAIT in 2002 (ahem).
Raitings went down, and so did the Peak... changing their format again to classic rock, and their imaging to what is now known as Q107.
That was all by memory and opinion... here's the Wiki...
