Interesting old thread. I'm in my forties now, never had a tattoo. I never minded them, other than the already mentioned barbwire, oriental/cartoon characters etc. I've never got one mainly because I've never liked being a lemming and getting one without meaning. I am interested in getting some work done now though.
There is lots of mention of tattoos with no connection to their origin. I agree.... just because you watched Bugs and friends as a kid, you should not have Yosemite Sam on your leg and Chinese characters just look kind of bad on skinny white boy. To each their own though. Having said that the work I'd maybe like to have done is very Mexican, to the point where any Mexican would recognize it. I love Mexico, its people, and everything about it, although I'm a blue eyed, fair haired, 4th generation Canadian. I love my country as well, but just have no desire to tattoo a maple leaf, or hockey stick to my shoulder. I'm curious. Does this lump me into the lack of tattoo relevance crowd? FWIW, I think a Mexican who loved Canadians would look pretty cool with a big red maple leaf on his shoulder!
Tattoos are super personal, get what you want. You'll look super hot Can I get another one?

I am not Chinese, so why would I get Chinese symbols inked on me?

A little background to this, My buddy was eighteen, and fresh out of highschool, and a couple of his uncles were working a rig, and needed an extra man that day. So they picked him up in the crew truck, and were driving out to the lease when the truck went out of control for some reason and rolled. 2 of his uncles were killed instantly and he was rushed to the hospital, where he was on life support for a couple weeks. After much deliberating they decided to pull the plug on him on October 10, 2000. Yet remarkably he survived and ended up pulling through, and is just fine to this day.
I guess he wanted a tribute to his darkest day, and how he pulled through.
Effing crazy.

I only have 1 so far and its on my Left Shoulder. I had mine done at Fine Line Tattoo parlor on 16th Ave in Calgary. The guy who worked on it did a pretty bad job. I'm sure most of you would know what this tattoo is. Hahah.
I plan on getting a full sleeve done on the same arm to go along with the Tat in the near future.

I'm actually a huge fan of brands, I think they look great! Of course, I've known a lot of guys that were in black fraternities so I've had more exposure than most. I'd get one, but I'm not sure if I have a simple enough design in mind to do so.
Maybe a fleur de lis for my love of New Orleans...
