My family crest on my left arm. I've also got the Metallica ninja-star on my right arm.

I've dreamed of getting a Maple Leaf colored in with my family tartan, but always figured the tartan would be too difficult to do properly.

Interesting thread. I don't have any tattoos yet, because I think they really need to have some meaning, considering it is on there for the rest of your life. I almost got a dolphin & anchor tattoo towards the end of my time with the Naval Reserve, but the guy wouldn't ink me at the time I wanted it because he said I was too drunk.

I agree that there are way too many people with tribal tattoos on their arms (or lower back ) because it is the "in" thing to do. I think it makes them look like a lemming, and believe it borders on disrespectful.

And don't get me started on people who have Asian characters tattooed on them who are not even remotely Asian. Reminds me of a story I read where the whole office had totally convinced this (white) girl that her new Asian tattoo meant "BBQ Pork" or something like that; they even Photoshopped and reprinted a Chinese take-out menu with her tattoo characters beside one of the menu items.

On the lighter side of tattoos, I think this car ad is a good one, shows what may happen when you really love your car (I might be a bit biased though): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2NN-lYd01s

Well, I found some old pictures I took a while ago of the one on my chest, but couldn't find any of the one I have on my arm.

Interesting old thread. I'm in my forties now, never had a tattoo. I never minded them, other than the already mentioned barbwire, oriental/cartoon characters etc. I've never got one mainly because I've never liked being a lemming and getting one without meaning. I am interested in getting some work done now though.

There is lots of mention of tattoos with no connection to their origin. I agree.... just because you watched Bugs and friends as a kid, you should not have Yosemite Sam on your leg and Chinese characters just look kind of bad on skinny white boy. To each their own though. Having said that the work I'd maybe like to have done is very Mexican, to the point where any Mexican would recognize it. I love Mexico, its people, and everything about it, although I'm a blue eyed, fair haired, 4th generation Canadian. I love my country as well, but just have no desire to tattoo a maple leaf, or hockey stick to my shoulder. I'm curious. Does this lump me into the lack of tattoo relevance crowd? FWIW, I think a Mexican who loved Canadians would look pretty cool with a big red maple leaf on his shoulder!

0.

It's not that I'm against them, just never found anything worth putting on my forever or, at least, seriously thought about it.

Which Flames player has the upper arm sleave tattoo, I'm thinking it's Bourque. Just saw a glimpse from the media scrum from the dressing room the other day.

I'd be interested to know what proportion of people aged 18-25 have at least one tattoo. It seems to me it's probably a majority now.

I don't have any myself. Unless they've got some deeper meaning it just seems like a fashion statement, like buying an Ed Hardy t-shirt or D&G sunglasses or something. I have no interest in fashion, so no interest in fashionable tattoos, and no interest in expressing anything important to me by drawing it on my body.

I've often wondered why so many people even want them at all. I think, for a lot of people, the reason really is just: "because it's cool."

I am working on my full sleeve right now, about 40% done... Its all traditional Japanese, Flowers, water, Koi fish, dragon, geisha girl, hanya mask. My friend does it all for me.

Plan on having both arms done and my back, can still look all business, no neck or hands or anything visible while wearing a dress shirt.

I want to get one with my baby daughter's name on it. I'm hesitant because 95% of tats I've seen are ######bag-esque. I'll probably never get it done but it is one thing that I would be ok with permanently etched on my skin.

I have 6 of them and I love them too.

Mine are not seen unless I wear shorts or don't have a shirt on.

One I cant stand. It just looks bad.

I currently have none but have a few ideas for some in the future.

Cliche as it is, I want the Maple Leaf, and maybe a tribute to my heritage (Polish, German, etc.), and have some of mash up which includes all of them.

I want to get the "Painkiller" as well on my back (Judas Priest's Painkiller). I think that is like the coolest thing ever drawn.

Cool, I now have 6..

Here is my latest,

Its just one tattoo, when you read it one way it says my daughters name (Jacey)
When flipped over it says Cammy, which is my other daughters name.

I don't have any tattoos. Thought about a few that I would get, but probably never will. Money and the fact that my preferences change throughout the years being the main reasons.

I know I studied English at the University level, but still don't consider myself an expert; don't they teach contractions in grade school though?

He probably posted that because you never really hear it when you live in Canada, not because he doesn't understand what a contraction is.
