The National Nuclear Security Administration announced today that scientists at the National Ignition Facility (NIF) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) have successfully delivered an historic level of laser energy — more than 1 megajoule — to a target in a few billionths of a second and demonstrated the target drive conditions required to achieve fusion ignition. This is about 30 times the energy ever delivered by any other group of lasers in the world.

I love that satellite graphic. I'm curious to know, what has China done that causes so much space debris? I sort of remember something about a satellite of theirs that broke apart.

They did an Anti-satellite test in 2007 in which they destroyed a satellite in orbit.

I'm guessing that's where most of the debris came from.

Holy crap, look at this:

Is that all debris?

Well, yes, Australia beats us at having less satellites.

But their circle is bigger! Or International is?

Yeah, you're looking at the "International" representation. The Australians only have a puny 6 active satellites compared to our massive 11!

The Aussies have been smug for to long.. what are they hiding "down under"? Gentlemen, were going to war.

Live streaming feed from the ISS:

And constellation being canceled blows hard. Returning to the moon and going to mars may be out of budget, but they still need some sort of vehicle to get them to the ISS and back.

I always thought that Constellation was a bit of a half a$$ idea. There has to be more efficient ways to get into space even for the short hop to the ISS. Plus the Constellation is limiting and resource hungry. Its pretty much like they'd reached into a time capsule from the 70's for that idea.

They really need to focus on a better way to transition from atmospheric to orbital flights with an easier cheaper return concept which allows for rapid turn around.

^^ leaving it to the private sector is the best way to get quick improvements in technology. NASA has to go through so much Red-tape to do anything.

I don't disagree with you on the private sector. I just worry about the oversite required on a bid situation to build a inherently danger filled vehicle using the cheapest parts to increase your profit margin.
