No. I'm saying that if I was driving down 16th avenue and THERE was a semi behind me, I'd have had the foresight to find an opportunity to change lanes without screwing up the truck driver's day and/or my neck.

There's really nothing to it. If you need to turn, get in the proper lane. If you're such a moron that you wait until the last possible second to switch lanes... Well... I hope there's a semi behind you.

I should have clarified my initial post better, I'm talking back of the intersection a ways and that's what makes it confusing because you're kinda guessing at what they're trying to do.

I see what you're saying about residential streets, I just always thought of 16Ave as more of a roadway.

Well that's my point too, I'm just wondering what the law to that actually is.

The law is that the majority of people look at the car ahead of the car in front of them, and preferably beyond. The only people that get stuck in the situation that you're describing are morons and people who text and drive.

The road is not equevilant to a line up at the bank. This is not sheep following sheep. When you're driving, you watch everyone. You watch everyone to the point where you're using peripheral equally or more than direct vision. If you can't see that there's a total struggler up ahead that's causing a snarl, it's YOUR fault for getting stuck behind him. If you didn't notice that there's a d-bag keeping pace beside you to keep you out of his lane, it's still your fault, no matter how much of a d-bag that guy is.

Never depend on other peoples' goodwill when driving. Plan your trip, stay alert when approaching your turn, and for fudge sakes, don't ever stop on a major thoroughfare because you missed a turn. Instead, turn the opposite way, pull over, and issue yourself an ass-kicking.

ha, my dad was driving on deerfoot the other day in the far left lane doing 120 and some guy driving in the far right, for no reason at all decides to merge all the way over and go in front of my dad...he is doing 82.

He wasn't even merging over or anything, he just all of a sudden decided to lane change all the way over in front of my dad.

Someone did that to me on Crowchild 2 weeks ago (I was doing like 92, he was doing around 70).

Just remember, at a 4 way stop, yield to the right of way.

I'm certain this is correct.

I really hate the quick dart out of the merge lane from the guy behind me. Makes me want to broadside that guy.

Well, since we're venting on here, let me add another one. People, do NOT change over to the right lane when other people are trying to merge onto the same lane. It drives me up the wall when I'm merging and just when I see my opportunity to get into the lane, some dinkus decides to cut into my merging point.

When someone does that, I make sure I try to cut them off and make them slame on the brakes. Higher potential for an accident? Probably, but they'd be the one rear ending me.

Thinking about stupid behavior on the roads, I have a new #1. I would forget about my other gripes if people just did this one thing for the safety of all others.

Commit. If you miss an turn or an exit:

Do not put it in reverse. Do not come to a full stop in the left lane and make a hard right across traffic.

If you're already nosed onto the road and there are cars behind you, please do not try to back up because you made a mistake.

Instead, drive around the block. Take the next exit and backtrack. You'll figure out where you're going without endagering other drivers.

I should've included this:

I freaking hate it when people stop at an intersection in the left lane when they're going straight and the right is usually a very popular turning point!

Like behind chinook on that little road that is parallel to the mall. People sty in the right lane for no reason while there are 10 people behind them trying to turn. They could've simply thought "Yeah, I won't be a goof, I don't need to turn, why should I block that lane?" but apparently they have ######ation.
