Ha, that's classic. The concept album was an idea that died far too soon, if you ask me! Maybe this will inspire other bands like Rush to re-embrace their concept-album past!

Maybe Styx can get back together to do Mr. Roboto.

Poking fun or serious?
Styx is together...though I doubt they are working on new material. Mr. Roboto is not in the same league as Operation:Mindcrime.
But, I know it's not mainstream and most people have never listened to it from start to finish so I don't expect anyone else to give a rat's fanny.
That's why the post is tiltled, "Oh Lanny" becacuse I know he does.

At the risk of either killing this thread or turning it in a different direction, I'd be curious to hear other people's favorite concept albums. I'll list mine, first.
5: The Man from God Knows Where--Tom Russell: An amazing folk-album song-cycle filled with stories about Russell's ancestors, weaving in Irish and Norwegian traditional music with contemporary songwriting.
4: Operation Mindcrime--Queensryche: Fantastic for all the reasons mentioned in the article. Fascinating and dark story.
3: Frank's Wild Years--Tom Waits: One of Waits' theatre-albums, this one has some absolutely fantastic individual moments, as well as holding together nicely over the whole, telling a story about an individual's journey and aging.
2: Outside--David Bowie: Bowie's done some really interesting concept albums and I have several others, but this one is my favorite--extremely inventive. Story about a detective investigating an art-murder.
1: 2112--Rush: I loved this one when I was in high-school. Now I love it mostly for sentimental reasons. Story about an individual using music to create rebellion in a disutopian, futuristic society.

Holy shiznit!!! Would that be freakin' awesome to see. I would be all over that, even though the band is not even close to its best lineup. Holy smokes, how can these guys NOT be playing Phoenix???
BTW... Styx IS back together and touring with none other than Lawrence Gowan providing the vocals of Dennis DeYoung who is still recovering from an illness. Gowan does a very capable job of replacing the lead singer from all reports. Good to see a Canadian artist making it good!

Funny Japan story. Journey is still touring here and they are playing place like the BUDOKAN and charging $50US a head for tickets?
All because their songs are making a comeback via Nissan commercials. (I'll try and find a link)
What would be scarier than Gowan headlining Styx is if they scheduled a date at Calaway Park's Alpha Milk Stage at some point during their tour!

I wouldn't be surprised to see them add more dates. They did that on the tour last fall and ended up playing about 3 times as many shows as they had originally planned. They even played in a small 'ballroom' less than a mile from my house.....I had to work....pfffft.
No more working nights for me though...3 more and I'm done. Would be surprised if they came to Wichita again.
When they did Midcrime from start to finish in '91 I missed in when I was in LA too....didn't want to go alone. Big mistake.
