Correct me if I am I wrong, but aren't Stajan and White both UFA's after this season?

If this trade doesn't stop the guys on the PP from telegraphing passes to Dion, nothing will.

Exactly.
Hagman is a stud. I wanted Sutter to sign him when he was a UFA. In SLC he was the best forward for Team Finland by a mile.
He's a first line player.

This thread needs a public poll.
It'd be interesting to see how the CP membership views this trade.
Personally, I think Dion was the obvious piece to move (moreso if the personality conflict rumours were true). But I worry about how much our newbies really bring to the table that the Flames don't already have. I'd have been happier with a decent LW/C (like Hagman), and some replenishment of the prospect/pick cupboards. I'm surprised that wasn't available from some other team.
I feel we've got a dearth of blue chips in red silks...

Is the server traffic too heavy to get a poll going? I would love to see what the masses think (including lurkers).

Great comment on the Fan960:
"Points on another team do not translate to points on this team".
That has been my point all along. If the problem with the offense is the system and aging impact top 6 forwards (which I think it is), then adding two average offensive players like Stajan and Hagman is not going to fix that. If the guys we have right now who should be better on paper are not getting it done, how will average guys like Stajan and Hagman fair?
We need a young forward with potential equal to Phaneuf and I think we really missed an opportunity here.

I got 3 points and one question.
point a: Lost in all of this - we'll almost certainly get to see Lucic vs Dion now. I'm sick of watching Komisarek get beat up.
point b: I got a feeling that Lundmark is gonna look awesome with two left handed shooters like Hagman and Jokinen.
point c: Losing a big shooter on the point might force Bouwmeester and Gio to shoot a little more.
My question: Who went to the skills? What kind of velocity did Gio and Bo have in the hardest shot contest?

You are correct. I feel that we could of got more for Phaneuf easily. If these guys don't put the Flames over the 1st round (or even the playoffs)... just ouch. I think D Sutter pushed the panic button to early and it might cost us for YEARS to come.

I don't think he is a 1st liner... He has only socred more than 40 points twice (42 and 41). That just isn't first line production. He's more like Bourque or Langkow, and being 30, I wouldn't expect him to be on the rise.

Salt Lake City was 8 years ago already. 30 year old forward...I'm willing to bet his game goes downhill in the next two years.

Hey guys, I thought you might appreciate a Leafs fan perspective on the guys you are getting.
Stajan - He's a playmaker, and is good enough at it. On a good team, I think he's really a 3rd line centre/borderline 2nd liner. A very good team guy, he was our NHLPA rep while he was here, and he'll be a good influence in the dressing room. He is decent defensively and has been used in a PK role in the past. He's not the kind of guy who will throw a bone-crushing hit, and some will tell you that he's a bit soft, but I think that's a bit exaggerated. He doesn't have remarkable speed, but he's by no means a bad skater. He's sort of a jack-of-all-trades, that's probably the most apt description of his skills - good passer, good at faceoffs, decent defensively, and overall a good teammate and media-friendly guy.
Hagman - You've seen enough of him in your conference, but I think his style of play can be summed up as a streaky goalscorer. He isn't gritty or anything, but he will stand up for himself and he isn't afraid of going hard to the net. As many of you already know, he will likely pot in 20+ goals so he is a pretty good depth player to have around.
Mayers - Again, you guys are familiar with him, but I feel he's taken a step back from his Blues days. He's your prototypical fourth liner, will fight every so often and make a big hit. I'm sure you know what you are getting with him.
White - He's the one you should be most excited about. A great character guy who possesses some offensive skills. We tried him at forward last season, so he is versatile in that regard. He can score goals on the PP and is good at distributing the puck. Despite his size, he's a surprisingly strong guy and won't get pushed around in front of his net. I really think White was our most improved player over the past two years and I'm sad to see him go. He's been playing upwards of 25 minutes and can step in a huge way if your blue line comes down with injuries. He's a steady guy to have back there on a second pairing.

I love Hagman and wanted him on the Flames when he was with Dallas, but calling him a 1st liner and a stud as if he's Phaneuf is massively overrating him.
