Last night while watching the Canucks comeback against the Leafs I remarked out loud that Ian White is a "pylon". He really stood out in a bad way last night. I'm not sure why I'm posting this other than it was the only time I've commented on White's play ever and when I heard he was part of this deal, I chuckled.

I wish I could thumbs down your stupid post.

Ya Dion was distraught as well. It's tough to see players leave cause you know they've really enjoyed their time here and didn't want to get traded but it's a business and you have to move on.
I'm just shocked that #3 is actually gone .

Last time I went to school, 9 million was more then 7.25 million.
Bottom line. If Calgary doesn't win the cup this season, this could go down as one of the worst trades ever.

Did 3 = 1 when you were in that school?

You do understand that that is THREE roster spots right?
$10M is more likely, but it fills some pretty glaring holes in the Flames.

I am too. I never thought that Sutter would trade Phaneuf of all players.

Sutter your an idiot.
I hope all the anti Dion fans realize we just lost an allstar and recieved nothing close in return.
This trade is a joke.
Year after year Phaneuf will be playing in the allstargame because he already is an allstar and will get even better for Toronto.
3 rules Never trade with a bottom feeder, unless you get their best player.
Never trade one of your best players without getting the 1st round pick coming back your way.
Whoever gave up the best player wins the trade.
This deal is horrible.
The Flames needed if anything a true #1 star forward.
The Flames picked up 2 second line players and 4th line tough player along with a midget Defenceman.
Stajan has to resign with the Flames or this deal is not just horrible but a failure.

So did I, but he has looked decent this year. I chuckled again when Mayers was included, those two played a huge role in the GWG last night. Then Toskala got traded, and he was the 3rd contributor to the goal.

It fills holes... but the holes need playmakers there... Calgary has plenty of shooters and Stajan and Hagman are not gifted playmakers.

Yes, I am aware of that. But spending 10 M on a 3rd line centre, 2nd line LW and a 4th-5th D man is just hilarious. Enjoy.

Initial reaction was shades of Gilmour for Leeman. Reflecting a little more, I hope this might be what puts us over the top NOW ie. Brett Hull for Ramage and Wamsley who were key to getting us over the hump in '89.
Though we lost a future hall of famer and pure goal scorer, Ramage and Wamsley were key pieces for a solid defenceman and back up goalie with character.
At least that is what I hope...................................

I think we were all really hoping Freddie was going to be a success here. He was barely visible all season, so it was definitely a disappointment. Seemed like a great guy though, I wish him well.

In fact, Darryl Sutter said: This was not because of Dion. It was not about Dion.

I would have kept Phaneuf though and used that Bouwmeester contract cash for another forward.

I've been a fan of Matt Stajan for a few years, and I told a lot of my friends that as much as I liked Freddy, they could try to flip him for Stajan. I like the guys we got, but not for the price we paid.
I've been a Dion supporter since we drafted him, and saw him as a franchise Flame. At the same time, Sutter has, IMO, only made one poor trade since he got here (the Stuart/Kobasew deal).
Time will tell as to how good this deal is, but I'd say that Sutter knows what he's doing here, and if we make it past the first round, it might be good for us. I am really surprised Sutter didn't bring in a 3rd or 2nd round pick.
