Not sure how good it is for Phaneuf either. He's going to from a market that at least is reasonable towards its players to one that will have effigies of him and his GF in the stands if he plays poorly. And the media there will not hide any sort of conflict between him and others.
|
Not even close. SHows how much you watch hockey. Both sets of players are completely different skill sets.

Brutal deal now. Worse in 5 years when Phaneuf is winning the Norris, and we don't have any of these scrubs playing for us.
I need a drink.
|
Let me quantify this by saying I am pretty much the biggest Dion apologist on these boards.
If it takes him 5 years to be good enough to win the Norris, then I am glad he is gone. You can't pay a guy money like Dion is earning and have him not perform. We overpaid him to avoid him being snagged by an offer sheet and right now he is not worth the money he is making, nor has he been for quite a while . In fact it is not even close. I keep thinking that we can overpay him for one more year and he will turn out like we all expected, but obviously there are some things that are going on that we don't have all the details on, like his attitude.

That's a relief. We traded a big time player for someone who really wanted to be a Flame!
Iginla for a member of CP. Get it done Sutter!

Sure but when your paid as a top end player you need to produce in all facets of the game. No different than when I go to work each day.
I just think Dion is finally getting ahealthy dose of reality check and realizing his ego is bigger than his game.

Not sure about that. The Leafs just jettisoned a good chunk of their offense (Stajan, Hagman, Blake) and when Ponikarovsky and Stepniak are moved they will have jettisoned it all with the exception of Kessel.
They don't get that much better on the back end unless Phaneuf fins his game, but even so the Leafs will not be able to score for the remainder of the year. They've solidified 15th place in the east with the deals. The Bruins are very happy right now for this upcoming draft. We'll have to see how Burke builds the offense for next season because he has a heck of a lot of building to do.

People need to stop trying to read things into radio interviews. Seriously.
Its a shock for everyone involved i would suggest, and as such, time is needed to digest everything....this was a massive deal for both teams, as the Leafs gave up a huge part of their team.

I really really want to see what else we could have gotten. Sutter had to have been shoppong for something else.
I wish it was a rule that upon trades GM must disclose his options. It'll never happen, but man do I wish to know what else we could have gotten.
The roster issue is now interesting. Could this be finally the time Conroy gets sent down for the rest of the year? Maybe Prust?
Anyone know if Hagman, Stajan, White lacing up tomorrow? or vs. 'Canes?

I really don't understand why Sutter pulled this deal off now. Why not wait until the trade deadline when you can get more. This trade reminds me of the Joe Thornton trade. Phanuef will blossum in couple years and we are left over with a bag of a%#.
I always trusted Sutters until now. He needs to be fired now!

Alright now that I am beginning to calm down. I do think that Sutter still should have gotten more, or at least gotten a 1st rd prospect or something else out of the deal.
But adding Hagman/White/Stajan/Mayers really improves the team right now. We are immediately better in the FO circle, Stajan is a decent playmaker and all 4 of these guys work their butts off. Hagman is always a guy I have wanted in Flames silks.
I am definitely not happy about losing Dion, but if the team can do some damage this year and if Sutter can use this extra cap wisely this summer, then this move might end up being a decent one (Even though initially I absolutely hated it).

As a long-time fan of both teams, I declare the Flames the winner. Stajan and White are going to make a great impact on the Flames.
Phaneuf's play this season had deteriorated to the point where he had to go. For the Leafs' sake, I hope he gets his head straightened out.
I hope Matty gets to pick #14 so I can get a new jersey.

Strange days. I'll miss Phanuef, but I'm excited to see what Stajan and Hagman and White can do for our team. Mayers? he's like getting Premeau back. not sure how he'll make this team any better. Not that Sjostrom brought much, but he was fast. Must be more trades to come. I'm expecting a two players out for one coming back or some future picks. I hope Sutter knows something we don't. Can't wait for Philly on Monday!
Anyone posting the need for Sutter's head should at least wait and see what happens next and wait to see how this affects the FLames overall game. Knee jerkers!

Are you kidding me??
Look i am hesitant to embrace this deal as well...but Hagman and Huselius are about as different players as you will find.
Thats just goofy.

Dude, did you watch the game last night? Yeah, White's supposed to be "offensive", but these days it only describes his smell. Stajan's softer than butter sitting out on the couter during a hot summer day.
We got the short end of the stick.
Tell yourself that we're going to the second round on the backs of Stajan and White. Yup, keep smoking the good stuff.

Somebody mentioned that Sutter and Sather were talking on thursday night. I wonder what Sather was offering if Phaneuf was on the table.

Not going to read the 24 pages... however if the Flames did not get the Leafs 1st rounder from this year then this is a bad trade.
Guess Leafs GMs have some spell over any of our GMs.... definitely the group coming over do not have the same skill as Dion.
Obviously te locker room hasn't been good for a while but I'm surprised at how low the return for Dion was.
That said if subtraction of Don makes a stronger "team" then I'll hope for the best.

This all screams cap space and we got a tonne of it freed up this off season. The Defence will be built around Bouwmeester and Giordano with Negrin and Pelech coming up. Phanuef wasn't needed. I am willing to bet it takes two games and we forget all about him. Giordano has far surpassed him and plays with way more heart and passion the Dion does.
We got very servicable guys in return that should make Glencross, Moss, Nystrom and maybe even Bourque a little worried.
Still think there is another deal here somewhere, Chicago maybe with the expiring contracts that Sutter wanted?
Not upset at all. Phanuef wanted out and now he is gone. Move forward. Our D will be fine without him...

Where do you people get these comparisons? White is nothing like Sarich they play completely different styles.
