Hey, a multi-player deal with an awful Leafs team; that's never had a bad result in Flames history, right?
Granted, Phaneuf ain't Gilmour, and they got more back, but...I don't really see the point in trading Phaneuf when his stock is down.

I wonder what could have been going on in that room to force Sutter to finally break up the core? Guess the counsellor didn't work!

Just reading the reactions from Leafs fans - I can't believe they acquired Phaneuf without giving up even one asset they found painful to lose.

surprising move. I though phaneuf was available, but has his value declined that badly?!
Stajan and Hagman and White are all pretty good players; none with the ceiling Dion had...but maybe they can bring more to the room now.
Strange deal...

If this is all we could get for Phanuef it speaks to his market value with other teams. I thought Sutter would have gotten more for Phanuef in the way of a Carter from Philly or a top line forward.
My other thought is the strong play of Gioardano make Phaneuf expendable.
We made some many coaching changes to shake up this time and nw it looks as if Sutter felt it was time to shake up the core.

I hope Dion becomes the player he truly can in Toronto and every Saturday night he says "frick you" to all those stupid Flames fans that have never played organized sports, let alone understand what it takes to play at this level. Man, I'm embarrassed to be a Flames fan today because of what just happened.
The further trade of the Leafs for Giguere - there is an indication that there is a first round pick coming to Toronto - could that be comng to Calgary?
Who know? Good luck Dion. I'm sure going to miss you.

You took the words right outta my mouth, couldn't have said it better. I'd thank you twice if I could.
I'm really going to miss you Dion, I hope things get better for you. Good luck.

Solid trade, we are a better team now after filling or upgrading organization holes and weaknesses.

The forewarning was probably both Sutter and Phaneuf adamantly denying the rumours.
I'm in mourning....off to grieve.

Howard Berger was literally giddy calling this an amazing deal for the Leafs. I can't blame Leaf fans for being happy about this deal as they are setting themselves up for a brighter future without giving up any key pieces of their organization.

Komisarek used to date Cuthbert right? This should be fun.

funny thing is that i said that back then as well.
this trade makes no sense to me and i don't get the apologists.
2 of these players will be UFAs, and if we really wanted white and hagman we could have gotten them for less than phaneuf. and we could have gotten the other 2 for free in the offseason.
no schenn, even no kessel, and even more no draft picks.
i wouldn't be surprised to see the leafs move phaneuf for the trade that we should have gotten.
you know...i was holding out for a 3way getting getzlaf at best and perry at worst.
instead we got 4 leaf roster players of which 2 will be available to all for free in a couple of months.
we either downgraded or salary dumped. is this what we do with core players?

I'm still a little shaken from news of this trade...people gave Dion way too much crap, he played hard every game...I'll miss him for sure. Thanks for the good times Dion.

The big announcement will be made on draft day when the rest of the league is setting themselves up for the future. The Flames will announce the re-signing of the great Matt Stajan.

I highly doubt both Sutters decided to get rid of Phaneuf because of a few fans booing him. It wasn't as if the entire 'Dome stood up and booed him everytime he touched the puck. I heard them cheer pretty loud when he scored last night...
Something serious had to have been happening for D. Sutter and B. Sutter to give up on Phaneuf like this. Something very, very serious. Regehr didn't want to play with Phaneuf, and Regehr is a very influential guy in the room.

I don't give a damn about what kind of cap space we get next year.
This trade was available to us in the summer as well.
I do not believe for a second that this was the best deal for Phaneuf that was on the market.
I am sitting here waiting for another anouncement and nothing is happening.
Even if it is Kovalchuk, I'm not happy....
