Is Lethbridge possibly one of the reasons behind your therapy request thread? This is a serious question.

I know that sometimes when I am in a small town or place for extended periods of time, I get severely depressed.

Also - glad to see you have the new logo in your avatar. I hope they make the theme music more traditional this time.

I always find it funny how people from Calgary look down upon Lethbridge. Like most have already mentioned, living in West/North/South Lethbridge is just like living in any small community Calgary. When I lived in Calgary, I lived downtown, so the move was a little different than most people would encounter.

I'm not from Calgary originally (out of country), so I didn't really know too much or anything about Lethbridge before I applied to come here as a student. When I did apply some of friends told me I was nuts and would hate it. I just heard that UofC was a horrible school (especially for my program). I got into UofA and UofL (the only two I applied to), UofL got back to me quicker and from all I heard had a better program for me and is an overall cheaper education (rent, etc)

I like Lethbridge, went to the hurricanes game tonight and had a good time. I'm glad I got out of Calgary (although I've had some good times there); I don't know if I would have went to UofA instead if I could go back. I have a lot of friends who were already up there so I might have. I'm happy with Lethbridge though.
I haven't spent a summer here yet although will probably do so this summer while taking a few courses. Looking forward to it, as I hear summer is excellent down here and barely any wind. If anyone knows of any jobs hiring around april/may let me know--haha

I'm also a student in Lethbridge and have lived here for nearly two years, I even stayed during last summer. I really enjoy Lethbridge, because of my job as a delivery driver I've gotten to know the city and the people pretty well. Being originally from Calgary Lethbridge is welcome community, very laid back, without the big city traffic, something that I really like. For its size it has a lot to offer, some of the activities offered by the University alone are fantastic if you utilize them.

For example: tonight I'm going to a concert in a really cool little venue that used to the old fire-hall now converted into a bar. I've been to a few other shows there during my years here, and it rivals any small venue I've been to in Calgary.

Either Saskatchewan or Calgary it seems, lots of people from the East Kootnays as well, since Lethbridge is the nearest city to Cranbrook.

oh no, it was much worse when I went to the UofC. I go up to Calgary often enough that I don't get too sick of it, and I don't think that's really much of a factor. Most of the stuff that upsets me I won't talk about on here, but one of the bigger factors is that everyone I was friends with in high school pretty much left Calgary, and while I still know enough people that I can go out and enjoy the city when I'm up there, absolutely none of them are good friends I can share anything with, just buddies I go out with. I seem to have lost any will or determination to socialize and seem unaware of how to do so, since I had one set group of friends and acquaintances for so long and any new friends I made were introduced into said group. I think a big part of it is I'm just lonely, and it's been especially tough since moving here because I've seen everyone new transition so easily, including international students who couldn't even speak English, and I'm just left wondering what happened. Oh well, I can always look to my grades for comfort.

I really hope the new series is good; I have high hopes for it.

I like Lethbridge although I do not live there but my kids do,my daughter attends the UofL and my son just moved up there last week. I visit often and have found good restaurants and had the pleasure of rafting down the Oldman river last summer,I am a river rat from way back by the way. Both of my kids are very pleased with the city as well.My Daughter spent 2 yrs in Camrose at the Uof A,so she is very happy to have a bus service at last.Very beautiful river valley and nice parks. the downtown is quite historic,to bad about the vacant shops though.

yeah, to Berger's post which you decided to quote for some reason, again, .

Sucks that some visible minorities will cry racism if they happen across a white guy having a bad day who is rude to them, or if they're not good enough for a job, but don't generalize.

For what it's worth, I think the race-focus in our historical revisionism in Canada is a big problem, and creates an artificial idea of a fractured contemporary Canada, ignoring the fact that many groups of whites were heavily discriminated against in the past. Forgetting that the Klan in Alberta in the 20's were targeting Eastern Europeans even ahead of the Chinese is the worst sort of historical revisionism, not to mention the attitudes towards Germans during WWII (hear a lot about the Japanese internment, but not much about the vandalism and assault which was far from uncommon against Germans). Whites can be 'racist' (read: discriminatory) even within themselves, and we also need to get rid of the notion that non-whites can't be racist to whites. I heard a story once about a white girl who went into a Chinese shop/deli and had to use the washroom, and the guy said 'you people' are filthy and can't use the washroom. A short while later a Chinese girl entered the washroom unobstructed.

Dude your name made me think of Total Recall. I wasn't trying to make a racial statement. I'll edit if you're offended.

ha, I'm not offended. I'm bored enough that I'll rant about anything if someone triggers it.
