I'm glad they're not taking the scopes out of service to fix them. The last thing you want to do is take equipment away from the troops. I'm willing to bet that hardly any of the scopes already in the field get fixed though. Seriously, would you rather have a Jesus scope, or a scope that used to be a Jesus scope that you scraped the numbers off of? I choose Jesus Scope.
I can see that becoming a catch phrase:
"1 section, 300 meters, 12 o'clock - insurgents moving left to right as seen in my Jesus Scope, rapid rate, fire!"

muslim groups reacted angrily Wednesday after it emerged that the US military in Iraq and Afghanistan were using rifle sights inscribed with coded Biblical references.
And this is coming from the people that strap dynamite on their daughters

LOL... guns and Jesus part deux
The son of a well-known Alcoa pastor has taken out an order of protection against his father, claiming he was threatened with a gun during an argument at a church over his lack of church attendance.

yeah, that's really common-place.
Look, I'm not a Muslim, I don't like religion in general but I think Islam has regressed much more than others after the Wahhabi influence started to spread (mind, there were actual wars fought against the current dominant version of Islam, by Muslims), regardless of all that making up a false reality in which a customary Muslim practice is strapping dynamite to your daughter is not going to help anything.

hey, I'm with you, bud. Got nothing against spiritual people who find a connection with God in whatever form, one of my best friends is LDS, another is Hindu, another Catholic, even a member of the Eastern Orthodox Church in Jersualem! All great people. Really hate the tendency of religion to poison so much, though.
I have a feeling we'd be killing each other over something else if the opiate of the masses didn't exist, so I've stopped blaming religion and started blaming people, including those who came up with the religions. History doesn't exactly paint a pretty picture of human nature.

Bingo, we're genetically inclined to fight. War's are as much a part of human nature as sex and eating.
If it wasn't religion it would be hair color, the smells of our farts or the color of our houses.
As much as people like to dream about peace and all of mankind forming hands and singing combaya, the bottom line is that until we find something else that triggers our instincts to fight and kill, other human beings will just have to do.

Fun times in Pakistan...
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has a black goat slaughtered at his house almost every day to ward off "evil eyes" and protect him from "black magic," a newspaper reported Wednesday. A spokesman for the president told the Dawn newspaper the goats were slaughtered as an act of Sadaqah -- meaning "voluntary charity" in Islam whereby one gives out money or the meat of a slaughtered animal to the poor to win Allah's blessing and stave off misfortune.
hmmm....a Leader of a country that has nuclear capability slaughters goats to ward off evil? Damn I hope Pakistan has a LOT of goats.

Yeah, I kind of see what your saying, and it's an interesting point, but I just don't know about that totally. I think most people want to live happy, peaceful lives. They want lots of friends, family and fortune. I think wars are fought over resources, the "have's and have-nots" and I think religion is a tool or excuse used to help exercise agendas to achieve those ends.
Or is this what you mean?
I think wars are fought because of power and enhancing a people's quality of life, not hair colour or religion like your saying. Is this the human nature part you refer to?

Sure people want peace, however mankinds nature of suspicion, jealousy, pettiness and greed will always get in the way of a lasting peace. In fact, I really can't think of a violent situation that was resolved strictly with diplomacy, usually one side is beaten, crushed and on the verge of extermination. And then peace is always enforced under the umbrella of war.
As I mentioned, if religion wasn't around, there would be other things to fight about that would take center stage. Remove religion, and race wars might become more prevalent, or the war between classes or the war between intellects and non intellects.
Why do you think we have borders? keep out of whats mine or I'll blow your brains out.
There are more agenda's then what god you believe in. WWII was about political ideologies, WW1 was about pride and handshake agreements, Korea and Vietnam weren't about anything but global positioning.

Power and wealth and the retention of status are all hardwired into us. Even a person like Ghandi craved the power to change his reality. Frankly belief is a form of power. If I can convince enough people that my belief is more right then our neighbors belief I'm betting that eventually with man's natural competitiveness that violence will ensue.
Owning possessions is a belief, gaining wealth is the 21st century religion. All of these are things that we crave and once we have them will do anything to prevent their loss.
We're a violent global society because of the evolution of survival and might. Its been wired into us.
And that brings up an interesting point if you think about it. Lets say that someday a section of society renounces violence and war and possessions, and that becomes a threat to those modern men, how long do you think it will take to throttle down those hippy s and try to convert them back to mans genetic traits.
