Pretty sure Robbie Stewart's closed down, due to being completely terrible.

Err... guess Troutman beat me to it.

Really? I always used to get good service and reasonable (reasonable for downtown anyways) prices. I haven't been in over two years now.

The links I posted are funny to read - you can see the pub disintegrating before your eyes - terrible service, bad food, and ownership fights.

I'm more a fan of the pub scene too, but a lot of my friends still love the bars so we hit those pretty regularly. Best club in town is HiFi without a doubt. (I've seen some great live acts over the past year and a half there...The Dudes, You Say Party We Say Die!)

Yikes, seems like everyone hated the place. It seemed pretty alright to me. I mean, not a GREAT spot but hardly bad. Then again I only went twice, seems like I lucked out.

EDIT: apparently it became progressively worse and I went when it was still decent.

Kawa eh? Never heard of it but it sounds interesting. I'll give that a try sometime. Thanks.

Is Brew Brothers still open?! I had heard they closed down or at least changed their name and style of place. I spent FAR too much time and money at that place several years ago. Ambush Ale FTW!

Never heard of Robbie Stewart's but it's now on my list.
I haven't been to Brew Brothers in a while but I'm pretty sure they're still open. Their website seems to suggest they are.

I go sometimes because my coworkers like it, and while I dig their food, it's not entirely worth the price, and their selection is pretty meh, and the few decent beers they have they serve in entirely incorrect glassware and even pour them wrong. I once had one of the guys pour my entire table's pints like he was operating a coke machine at a cineplex.

I personally love the Drum and Monkey / Bamboo. It's essentially a pub, when a small club next door. For the guys, it's got the pub (this is the Drum and Monkey). Little pricey, but the beer selection is awesome. All the publy goodness you can ask for!

The best reason for this place is, if you're with a group of ladies, they often get tired of pubs very easily. Girls love to dance, especially when drunk, so they can dance to their little hearts desire next door while you chill and have a pint.

Plus next door they have the greatest pizza in the city. Tandoori chicken mmmmmm.

If you don't like rap, hip hop, electronic, pop etc then I suppose it's better music, but only by default. Every time I go there (which I haven't in a while and don't plan on) they have the same play list, which mostly consists of AC/DC. Plus it's loud as sin in there. That place is like listening to CJAY 92 at full volume from 1" away from your radio at home, but with a much less chance of getting punched.

I work near Kensington, and have done so for over the past 3 years, and that place has had a different owner every year. Nothing can make a go of it, which is too bad because it seems like a pretty good location. I wonder what business is going to spend the next year there?

Clubs are fun if you're under 30 maybe even younger. They are generally filled with hot young girls who won't give older guys a second look (think you're some sort of creeper). I bartend at a busy club downtown it's the same thing night in night out. I'm assuming most of you who stay away from the clubs are old or have 0 luck with women.

Pubs are where you go with your buddies get drunk together and talk About maybe talking to a table full of girls. But it never happens.

Palomino.
No gay auto tune garbage music, no eyelids-glued back wearing 10 pounds of makeup sluts having trouble walking in their first pair of stilettos. Just Booze... and Loud music, and ruffians, Not the little bitchfaced wannabe gagsters.

How do you really feel?

The most recent nights out where i've had the most fun was at Wildwood (before they closed ) which had great beer and great live music.

I think a good band can creat more energy than a good DJ in my humble opinion.

The drum is pretty sweet but it gets way too packed for me. That little hallway connecting the 2 places is a complete zoo, especially with the absolute beauty position of the ATM. So you basically have a 6 foot wide opening with an ATM, the bathrooms, and the only connector between the 2 places. Do not like that, but the rest of it is awesome.

Worse than the original Den? Who puts carpet in a bar, seriously. Nothing like the smell of vomit and popcorn in the morning.

After the Mac Hall renovation, the SU sold framed square-cuts of the carpet to anyone who wanted to hold a piece of University history.

The substances that were likely contained within that carpet weren't just mythical, they were legendary.

I thought The Metro was a cool place because it was a sports lounge/club/live music place all in one. Only went there once, and by the time I moved to Calgary it was closed down. What happened to that place?
