Default 64-bit processor, 32-bit OS

I have specific software that does not work on a 64-bit OS. I have a branch wanting to order a 64-bit computer, which I would then put a 32-bit OS. I'm assuming since I have the 32-bit OS then I should be fine witht the 32-bit application.

Anybody else experience this that can confirm my suspicions? Hopefully I can convince them to just get 32-bit hardware as the vendor for our software won't be supporting 64-bit anytime soon.

Assuming you are using a Windows OS, it doesn't matter. The 64 bit processor can be used by either 32 or 64 bit OS.

I have had some severe issues ith my work laptop where i've moved to a 64 bit processor, on windows 7 (64 bit OS), but have several work critical apps that are only 32 bit compatible (ie. vpn client software).

In order to run these apps, i have installed Virtual PC running XP, and am able to run these apps with no issues.

Would this solution work?
