Default Whats wrong with my Internet/Router?

I'm with Shaw High Speed and my wireless internet seems to just cut out for no reason a couple times a day. When I go into my Wireless Network thing it says that I am connected and have full signal strength but the Internet definitely doesn't work.

I'll have no internet and Firefox will just freeze whenever I open it. Once I ctrl+alt+del it all I have to do is re connect to my network and its back but it is really irritating. Especially when I have something typed out and it freezes.

Any help? I haven't had any noticeable problems with the PS3 but I'm hardly ever online so not really a good sample size.

virus/spyware
router firmware
firewall issues (settigns or most likely running two different firewalls at the same time)

open a command prompt and type "ipconfig /all" without the quotes, and paste the info here, the next time the internet stops working.

What is the model of your router. Alot of home routers are twitchy and should be power cycled every few days.

Shaw told me that they are having problem with older modems and that they will exchange any modem not working. I had the same problem but switched companies before they got back to me with an answer.

Mine is too. I MSdos'd IPconfig and all it displayed was my IP and Mask and that other thing. And my provider.

Other signals from other sources may be interfering.
Try another channel. Worked for me.

I am having problems with my wireless router. The internet works intermittently, I have reset it 100 times, upgraded firmware etc. The internet works fine when I connect my modem directly to my computer.

I thought that maybe my router was on the ropes, so I went and bought a new one, well that one doenst connect to the internet at all.

Any suggestions? I am with shaw.

Call Shaw and get them to test your signal to noise ratio, could be your router is pushing it far enough out of wack that it kills your connectivity

Do you do a lot of bit torrenting?

I grab a torrent from time to time, and whenever I leave the client (µTorrent) running for a while, invariably my internet connection dies after 2-12 hours and I have to give the router & firewall a hard boot. But this only happens when I am running the torrent client. It's almost as if a techie at Shaw sees the torrent traffic and pulls the plug on me in spite.

I'm jacking this thread. I need a new router. What should I get? Is the Airport worth it?

Worth it? Probably not. He who has the best toys wins though, right?

If you would use the ports to plug network drives in, and would use it as a print server, and would use the guest log in for your wifi network, then it is probably worth it. However the best (most unique?) feature of the Airport IMO is that you are an external Hard drive away from having a Time Machine.

There was a thread about buying a HDD + Airport vs buying the Time Machine as a single unit.

For non apple alternatives, figure out if you will actually use things like a print server, network storage USB plugins, N or G, etc and get the one you will actually use the features on.

Personally if I was buying a router right now I would get a Linksys Gigabit N Router that had USB ports for a printer/external drives (whatever the equivilent of D-Link Shareport is called). Many people wouldn't need the USB drives/printer option though, my current setup really could use it though.
