Default Auto pop up websites and subsequent google search issue...

So at some point over the past few days, we've clicked somewhere we shouldn't have.

The issue is now, on IE 7, is that in a seperate tab, one of two websites will randomly open (not a popup, a full webpage opening) everu 5 or 6 clicks. Nothing malicious but annoying. Also, CP seems to be running slower, as well as some other sites, a along with the swirling circle that the webpage is still loading. Its not the connection, Firefox works without issue and loads no problem, or do we have the same problem with Firefox and the websites.

Tried scanning the computer with Ad Aware and Glary Utilities, but nothing out of the ordinary.

When then trying to determine how in IE how to block a website, my google search went along ok. However, clicking every link on that search brought me to some generic site.

I restarted IE, tried again, and actually got through to one of the websites. I closed again and reopened, and then clicking on that same site I was just in, went back to that original generic website.

Any idea? Are these two issues related. Its obviously some script of something that's attached itself to IE. The websites opening are one thing that are annoying, but to have all google searches on "how to block websites" to link to the same website is a bit more serious.

TIA

I believe the technical term for this is "p0rn loop".

You could try adding the sites to your restricted sites list:
Tools > Internet Options > Security tab > Sites button.

You should try IE8.

Next best thing is to go into your tools -> Manage add on's and remove suspicious looking toolbars etc.

Also Malwarebytes AntiMalware seems to work better than most of the other utilities.

I second that. All but the most hardcore malware are defeated by MalWare Bytes. And to think I only first tried it because I had given up everything and intended to format anyway. It removes all the AntiVirus08/XP/2009 type of things automatically.

I am going to second both solutions here. Upgrade to IE8 and run Malware Bytes.
