Default Tips for Baseball Pools

I am thinking about joining a Baseball pool this year and I was wondering if any of you have an experience in them and could give me some tips. I know that for instance in Football pools it's good to take Runningbacks first, followed by QBs and WRs and such and lastely Defences. Is there a system I should follow for a baseball pool?

Also, I'm sure there are different types of leagues...Which kind do you prefer and why? Would there be a better style for a n00b like myself?

Any help would be great...keep in mind that I know next to nothing about baseball. I'm actually joining the pool to spark my interest and force myself to pay more attention to it.

Your drafting focus should really depend on your settings... ie) stat categories and the overall weight of each one

There's a lot of luck involved, but to win you really need to be up on the trends and use free agent or waiver pick up to your advantage...there's so many emerging players every year in the majors.... odds are a handful will be available mid season that weren't even on the radar come draft day...

have fun tho.... last year I had 3 top pitchers, and got absolutely destroyed.... make sure you get a good catcher :P

I'm in fantasy leagues with a bunch of regular guys and I've done the baseball pools primarily so I know when the football pool will be. Most years I do a bit of tinkering here and there with the team but this year I left the Yahoo draft order alone, used the autodraft, looked at my team maybe once every couple months if that and magically ended up in 2nd place. So as Kriz says, luck has a ton to do with it.

Like any sport the specialty positions are important. Depending on your setup pitchers could be the specialty position. Also I've found it's handy to have players with multi-positional status so you have more latitude to move guys around for the inevitable injuries and slumps.
