Calgary police say a 45-year-old man is now charged with first degree murder in the death of a teen girl.
The body of 17-year-old Brittney McInnes was found in her Canyon Meadows home on January 18th.
Bradley Wade Reitze was arrested last night after being released from a local hospital.

What a pice of $%!T

What the hell drives these scum-bags to do stuff like this????

My heart goes out to Brittney's Family.

Man that's crazy. My sister was in some of her classes. Very sad.

I know it's bad of me to assume, but when I first heard about the story, in my mind I was already saying to myself "I bet the stepfather did it".

Me too. Sadly, it did seem obvious.

I know what you mean. I thought about posting a comment about that but I figured I would just come across as though I were "stereotyping".

Truth be told, when I hear "step father" in scenarios like these, I can't help but be suspicious.

I think there were some factors aside from the "step father" thing.
That he was taken to hospital, and had scratch marks on him was a big red flag too.

That's for sure. Would an outsider/predator have entered a home with 5 people living there and killed her? Not likely.

Why do that? With our judicial system he'll be out of prison in 3 years with good behavior.

Because he's jumping to conclusions about what else was going on. When the man has been charged. The guy is supposed to be innocent until proven guilty and there is very little information out there.

He/she (You never know on here) wasn't jumping to any conclusions. He stated that he was WONDERING what else went on in the house.

Huh. Well, excuse me for also jumping to conclusions, but I also wonder what else was going on in that house. 17 year old girls don't just turn up dead every day of the week.

It's pretty easy to jump to conclusions, IMO. People don't often just behave like normal, loving stepfathers and then suddenly kill one of their children. It's easy to imagine that there was abuse and other disgusting stuff that might have been happening to this poor girl. Makes me feel sick to my stomach just thinking about it.

This is almost certainly the correct answer. He is charged with 1st degree murder, which means it was premediated OR she was killed in the course of commission of another offence. This is not a premediated murder scenario, given the available information, so the question is - what possible offence was being committed when she died. Given that the victim is a 17 year-old girl, the offender is a man, and the crime occured at home, I am afraid the only plausible answer is sexual assault.

What a sad situation. I live down the street from that house, it's definitly surreal when something like that happens so close, as opposed to just hearing about it on the news in Dover/Forest Lawn/Rundle and all those communities.
