Default Free project mgmt software

Hey CP,

Does anyone know of some free way to manage different projects. I division of my company is having issues (mostly with status feedback for customers) and I have been asked to assist them.

I'm wondring if anyone knows of some way I can create a centralized “at a glance” location for determining the status of all projects, bugs and enhancements. Eventually we may pay for something but to begin I'm just looking for a free solution. This doesn't have to be very complicated just something to track with.

If I can't find anything I may just make an Excel spreadsheet and keep it on a shared drive, I am just hoping for something more so that I look good!

Thanks.

Do you have Microsoft Project? It's pretty good at setting up time lines in Gantt chart format.

I would write you a program that could do this, but I don't know how as I'm not very computer savy. Sorry.

Spice works? I know it is built to be a complete IT management system, and it is completely free.

Have a look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compari...ement_software

Most of the software is proprietary, but there does look to be some open source packages that could be decent....

I think you want a low tech approach:
http://blog.technicalmanagementinsti...ly-better.html

If you want it online, just take a picture of it once a day and post that on a wiki/sharepoint site or email the snapshot out.

Make your customers rank the priority of bugs and features - avoid terms like high/low/medium, actually make them say this is number one, this two this three and so on.

I've used a few of the tools above but by far the simple task/feature/story boards work the best.

Here's some examples that the article points too:
