We should all post this on our social networking sites. Leno can go F himself.

I don't get that from this clip. He was just saying the right and nice things at the time. He didn't mention once that Conan was the greedy bugger that was forcing him out.

When the time came Leno (still at #1) moved aside and let Conan take over (or is that take the Tonight Show to the sewer?).

In the end NBC messed up by making stupid promises. It bit them pretty hard too. Lesson learned here is that you don't mess with a good thing.

Lesson for Conan is that you don't hold a network hostage.

It's worked pretty well for Jay Leno, twice.

How so? He could've easily told NBC in 2004 that the Tonight Show was his and he was going to leave to another network if they took it away from him while he was on top.

Somehow all the Conan fans fail to see that Conan contractually stole the show from Leno. Nice guy....

LOL... Conan stole the show? It's called handing over the reigns. Leno himself is 60! 60!!!!!

How did you think Leno got his 10pm show?

Who cares if he is 60 (is it too old to be on tv?). The guy was #1 and no sign of slowing down.

How did he get the show? NBC gave it to him so not to lose him to another network. That's what you do with a TOP GUY.

But they can't do the same with Conan according to you?

Carson was #1 and a TOP GUY as well... but eventually had to be replaced because of target demographics and age. It only makes sense to change hosts while you have good ratings, it makes the transition easier.

so instead he agrees he wants to retire and hand over the show to Conan.
then when the time comes and he decides he no longer wants to retire.
It was Leno's sulking and threat toward NBC that he was no longer willing to retire which led to him getting his 10:00 show in the first place.
Do you think it would have been better for Leno to tell NBC in 2004 or in 2009, like he did?

Carson left at much later age and he retired. Leno is not at that stage yet. If the demographics were the problem for Carson or Leno then they wouldn't be on top, would they?
Conan hasn't proven himself to be treated like Leno. He was good for the smaller drunken teenager crowd, but that crowd would also prefer the Cannibal Corpse instead of the Tonight Show Band.
Leno is much better suited to host the Tonight Show. Just because the younger crowd doesn't like him doesn't make it a good move to let him go. As we just witnessed.
Maybe Leno just needs to add a few fart jokes and act like a clown to appease the younger crowd, but then again, the Tonight Show is not a place for that.

He never agreed to retire. He agreed to leave the Tonight Show. He mentions that in the clip you guys are so upset about.

66 isn't a much later age than 60.

Basically NBC is making a decision based on a current demographic. It's a bad long term decision, but they'll learn that in time.

because Leno's jokes about Kevin liking big asses, smoking weed, and hookers are so much higher class than that?

What? Leno never wanted to leave. He was backstabbed by Conan in 04 thus leaving the show in 09.
Who cares about the 10:00 show, Leno gave up the Tonight Show. I guess he should've done the honorable thing by leaving to FOX to go head to head with Conan and destroy him in ratings? Is that a better solution? Yup, that Leno is a mean spirited guy.

Conan is the cry baby here, he cried in 04, made selfish demands (backstabbing a friend) and is crying again now. Maybe he should man up and admit that he failed to deliver. If he was better than Leno NBC would't let him go. It's that simple.

Just think for a second and put yourself in Leno's shoes. Apply it to your life right now, how sweet it is to be backstabbed out of a job?

Are you already forgetting that Leno's show bombed, that's why we are in this predicament in the first place?

Yep, and Nickelback sell a lot of records. It doesn't change the fact that they're both terribly average and low-brow. Leno's jokes are about as fresh as the produce kept at Nellie's.

I don't see how Conan stabbed anyone in the back. His contract came up and he had a chance to jump to a better opportunity. NBC didn't want to lose him so they gave him an incentive to stay. Jay could've told them to pound sand in '04 and they could've just let Conan go.

Leno did threaten to leave, that's why he got his show at 10. It's also the threat of him leaving which is causing NBC to give him the tonight show back. Leno shouldn't have agreed to leave if he wasn't going to. simple solution, no? Do you think NBC would have chosen Conan over Leno in 2004 had they know Leno wanted to keep going? honestly, if they had to choose then, who do you think they would have chosen? and do you think they would have offered Conan the Tonight show if they thought Leno was going to want to keep going? listen to the clip, Leno said he no longer wanted it into his 60's. so who backstabbed who?
NBC had to sign Conan, the only way they could do it was to find out how much longer Leno wanted to do the Tonight show, Leno said 5 years, they told Conan, it's yours in 5 years. No backstabbing there.

His show didn't have the luxury of competing against other comedy shows. That's why it failed.
