Does he admit if he's not going to be the Cardinals hitting coach this upcoming year? I don't know...

The goofy thing about his "admission" is that he still believes it didnt help him with power. Asked point blank by Bob Costas is he thought that if he didnt take PED's and HGH, that he still would have had a higher HR/AB ratio than Babe Ruth...he answers "absolutely".
Just....wow.

yeah but he got a job in the mlb. I'm sure the cards wouldn't hire him without him admitting it.

And then?
He has millions of dollars. Not like he needs that job.

He may not of needed the job, but he most ceratinly needed the media off his back. He would of been a massive distraction to the cards all year long without addressing the accusations and his nonsense in front of Congress. Now he has addressed everything, came clean because he had to as he had absolutely no other place to go than to the truth.
this is, IMO only, the ONLY reason he came clean now.

In Billy Chrystal's movie 61*, he really shows the pressure that was on Roger Maris in the 1961 season as he got close to breaking Babe Ruth's record. Everyone was against him, MLB, the media, the fans. It put a lot of stress on Maris and took a lot out of him. Then 37 years later Mark McGwire breaks the record to the applause of pretty much everyone with the full support of MLB. Its really sad to me that a guy like Roger Maris was jeered doing it cleanly while a cheater like Mark McGwire was cheered for breaking the same record.

There is more to life than millions of dollars...
He's also had what? 5 - 10 years of time to apologize.

Good post. I read an article somewhere - maybe ESPN, maybe somewhere else? - alluding to the fact that something like this was going on. Also stated that it was interesting that everything - from McGuire's, to MLB's, to St. Louis, to etc etc - just seemed ready to go and conveniently fell into place. He's apologized because he wants back in baseball, he's apologized because its a way for MLB to "respond to the Mitchell report" (no punishment, more reconciliation, etc). The article likened even his approach - generally its all b/c of injury recovery - to that of the successful approach of Andy Petite and how that worked for him so well.

Wonder if there's a book not far off. Or a reality TV show. Or some kind of publicity stunt.

The only reason Mcguire is getting/has got so much flack is because he was the best player taking steroids. Any player in that era that you can suspect of being on juice, most likely was. However, it's Mark Mcguire who's name has been forever tied to the word 'steriods.'
Point is, although it doesn't clear him one bit, many, many players were on steroids, haven't even been questioned, and the ones who have been have told lies to cover their butts. At least Mcguire has come out and admitted it now. Maybe now A-rod can tell us all what the 'regrettable' thing he did that he doesn't want to talk about was. Or maybe Sammy Sooser knows enough English to admit he took steroids. Or maybe Rogers Clemons, Giambi, Zaun, Vaughn, Glaus and Tejada can all admit too. It's been just as long since these guys first took steriods...

Easily was my favorite player as a youngster, along Dave Stewart and Bob Welch. I was always giving him the benefit of the doubt, but for him to say he didn't think steroids boosted his numbers is embarrassing. I watched his interview with Bob Ley and it's clear why he didn't come forward years ago, but it's also clear that he is looking for HOF validation.

I don't think either of them mentioned them by name. Rodriguez laughably said he wasn't sure what kind of PEDs he took. I liked one reporter's take on it. Something along the lines of "here's a guy who wouldn't so much as eat a Snicker's bar, and he didn't know exactly what he was taking?" Give me a break, guys.
But McGuire is also a joke for thinking his drug use didn't help him hit more homeruns.

apology means nothing the most telling answer to the question "did you use steriods for strength"?
"no i used them for health reasons"
Hey Mark you fraud. You used them for strengh and power you zipperhead.
Longterm steriod use causes long term health problems. But long term Steriod use will result in looking freakishly huge and hitting inhuman homeruns.

Read the links Troutman posted.
Steroids neither increase a baseball player's power significantly, nor cause any known long term health implications.

All I am suggesting is there is a debate to be had.
I would find it hard to believe that steroids do not increase power (why else would you take them?) or not have health implications (Lyle Alzado).

If there was nothing to be gained from steroids, why would half the league bother to use them?
