what was Leno thinking having Kimmel on? man did he get roasted, and not in a "Haha, lets laugh together roast". it was a "You're a dick, Leno" roast, and he didn't look happy
it made me decided to record Kimmel's show for the first time to see how he's like as a host. and while i don't really like him as a talk show host (he should have never left The Man Show), i have never found Evangeline Lilly more hot than after watching her interview. great personality to go with that body, and she's Canadian. i'll be in my bunk...
For those of you that can't get the link to work, or are blocked at work, here is a list of the comments from Jimmy as per Gawker:

Some choice quotes, courtesy Kimmel:
[Asked by Leno what the best prank he ever pulled was] "The best prank I ever pulled was I told a guy that—five years from now—I'm gonna give you my show. And then when the five years came, I gave it to him, and then I took it back almost instantly."
[Asked by Leno if he ever orders anything off of the TV] "Like NBC ordered your show off the TV?"
[Asked by Leno what the record is for number of lap dances he's received in one night] "Strippers, I don't like in general. Because you have this phony relationship with them for money, similar to that of when you and Conan were on The Tonight Show together, passing the torch... you know what I'm saying."
[Asked by Leno what he hasn't yet hosted, but would like to] "Oh, this is a trick, right? Where you get me to host The Tonight Show and then take it back from me?"
[Asked why he came on to do the segment] "Listen, Jay, Conan and I have children—all you have to take care of is cars. I mean, we have lives to lead here. You've got $800 million, for God's sakes—leave our shows alone."
I think I love Jimmy Kimmel now. Way to stick up for Conan!
We wouldn't be having this discussion if people actually watched The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien. The Tonight Show had an average of 2.9 million viewers (out of a total of 10 million between Tonight/Late Show/Nightline) one week before the premiere of The Jay Leno show. Last week it 2.5 million out of 10.2 million.

Yes we would, because the NBC affiliates would still be complaining that Leno isn't keeping viewers on the network to view their newscasts.

that isn't all Conan's fault. As he alluded to, he expected more support. Jay Leno for years had better lead ins with NBC dramas, etc.
Conan gets Leno basically right before him and viewers get talk show burnout.

Some people might have burnout from too many shows but I know more people who just won't watch Leno because his sense of humor is super lame and at least 10 years out of date. He's about as edgy as Full House reruns these days.
Kimmel was pretty bold tonight, entertaining all around.

.
Again, Leno was number one in his time slot when forced to leave . . . . . so you're not making a lot of sense.
Meanwhile . . .
In an interview with the New York Times, NBC Universal Sports chairman Dick Ebersol said Leno was being returned to late night because of "an astounding failure by Conan," ratings-wise, on "The Tonight Show."
The other reason was that Leno was apparently too successful in his new slot, killing local newscasts.

Leno's failure is what killed the local newscasts. People usually just leave on whatever channel they watch from 10-11 for the local news, and since they didn't watch Leno, they didn't watch NBC's local newscasts.

Actually his ratings were terrible giving a horrible lead in to the newscasts that's why they are complaining. If he was doing good he would of given them a good lead in.

Cowperson
Huh? Jay doesn't compete with newscasts, he comes before them. 10-11 is Jay, 11 is news, 11:30 is Conan.
I don't know if that's sarcasm but local newscasts and local affiliates were getting killed because instead of what NBC used to have (something like E.R.) leading into the local news, you had the Jay Leno Show, which nobody watched leading into local news. That's one of the motivations for this move.

I'm reading that article, and I can't find anywhere that it states that Leno was 'too successful'. Did you get that from another article that you didn't link to? What it does say is this:
Quote:
However, on Sunday, NBC Universal Television Entertainment Chairman Jeff Gaspin had told a couple hundred members of the press that the network had to move Leno out of his 10 p.m. time slot after TV station executives started threatening to preempt the show in large numbers. Their rebellion was stoked by the November sweeps ratings, which showed how much damage Leno's show had done to their late local newscasts.
Doesn't sound like success to me. Although I've said before, Leno met his ratings expectations that NBC had announced; it's just that those expectations were so low that it was basically conceding the show as a failure for its timeslot before it even aired. But I've never seen anything suggest that the affiliates would have been happier with lower ratings on the Leno show.
Leno's ratings will be a declining commodity. His core audience is getting older, and young people/Conan loyalists are not going to watch him as much anymore.
When I was in Vancouver over the Holidays I have my brother in law and my nephew hooked on just watching his monologue every night, they think he's the funniest guy on TV.
