What's the going rate for baby-sitters these days?

We've always used immediate family to watch the kid, but we're going to have to branch out soon.

What the heck do baby-sitters get paid these days?

$5 an hour for one kid? More if they feed them or anything?

Anyone know?

My wife runs a day home and her rates are about middle of the road from what we've seen out there:

1/2 day = $25
Full day = $40
Drop-In Hourly = $5
Weekend or Stat = above * 1.5

All are per child, and include all meals, snacks, activities, etc.

I'm guessing other baby-sitters would be similar.

We pay the babysitter 5 bucks an hour for the limited amount of times that we actually make it out of the house. I think that's a pretty standard rate.

I got paid $20 a day for looking after somone's dog for 10 days. I don't think that helps for the babysitter thing though. Back in the day when I was gulliable enough to do the babysitting thing, I think it was around 5 dollars an hour. Sounds pretty reasonable. Maybe you could go with a fixed rate per night?

well it depends on the babysitter. If she is 18 and a knockout I suggest $100 an hour and a key to the cottage.

If she is 12 and looking for a few bucks its $5 an hour for one kid...$7.50 for 2....after that Id take em with me.

Way back when I babysat, I used to get $10/hour for three kids, they were huge brats though, and don't tell my, but their parents used to give me cigarettes, and if I had to stay over, they'd give me beer and hoots too. I was 14. Craaaazy. No wonder their kids were brats.

Anyways, if your kids are little shinguards, you pay more so the person will come back again. $5/hour is not worth the hassle of brats.

Didn't have to. Dad ended up getting himself thrown into jail for coke, cleaned his act up right away. My sister is still friends with them... they were her friends, (well, the kids mom was anyways,) as they were all late teens early 20s dealing with parenthood together.
