Earthquake ravages Port Au Prince Haiti

			http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/reuters/1...us_quake_haiti

Could be pretty bad, as Haiti which is often ranked as one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere has a big Earth Quake near it's capital city. Life in that country is brutal enough as is, let alone to have something like this happen.

I've been watching a bit on CNN about this and some pretty scary stuff. Not going to be good for a country already in the pits.

Hate to see things like this happen anywhere. Haiti isn't the most politically stable country out there either, so here's hoping there won't be any major hurdles for the humanitarian aid that is sure to be coming in the next few weeks.

They just had 3 major hurricanes make landfall in one season...what was it, last winter or the winter before? Pretty brutal hand dealt by mother nature.

			Ravages?
It seems there's been an awful lot of big earthquakes over the last decade or so. Maybe I've only just been paying attention recently though.

It always seems to be the poorest places too...

It was in Late 2008 that the storms hit and none of them were Hurricanes at the time yet they still managed to kill thousands. Apparently, the Mountains around the cities are deforested and even a moderate rain can cause deadly mudslides. Unfortunately, many of the Haitians built their houses on the sides of these mountains and I fear many homes collapsed and slid down into the valley.

I know it is early but the death toll will rival that of the Asian Tsunami.

I just can't get over this story I wish they would have some more live stuff instead of the same old cycle.
I kinda stole this idea from CNN as they were flipping back and forth between pictures of the Presidential Palace before and after. This gives it a better look.

Sounds exactly like coastal Southern California minus the death toll.

CBC said Haiti is Canada's largest recipient of foreign aid - is this true?
I couldnt believe it, I figured it was some hole in Africa. If it is Haiti then good on the Canadian Government for reinvesting Canadian tax dollars into our hemisphere. Its too bad its in the condition that it is. It would be a nice vacation spot rather than going to dives like Cuba or the Dominican.

?
Dominican is on the other side of the same island, and unlike Haiti (who cut them down for paper to trade with other countries (along with guns) for food), it has trees, and a political climate which is moderate enough to allow investment and thus construct resorts.
