Default Mcgwire admits to steroid use during 1998 home run race

No surprise here. I wonder if Sammy Sosa will admit it as well

blah blah blah

"I wish I had never touched steroids," McGwire said in a statement. "It was foolish and it was a mistake. I truly apologize. Looking back, I wish I had never played during the steroid era."

Even thought i made millions and millions of dollar playing this stupid game. Baseball should take out every one of his stats from the record books along with all the other roided up dopes.

Worst 'sport' ever.

What about all the pitchers who were on something that he hit home runs off of? Do those ones get to stay in there? Or should the AB's just be erased for those at bats?
Are you going to go back in time and figure out what day he started, and then erase the stats from that day forward?

What about every olympic gold medal, NFL Championship, Stanley Cup, PGA Tournament victory, NBA Championship, CFL Title, and FIFA event in which players may have taken banned substances? Are we going to go back and get rid of all those, too?

Time for a big, fat, asterisk in the record books.

Good for him. He came clean and he didn't have a book to sell.

Good for him?

You've been lying for years, you lied under oath and everyone just assumed you took steroids. And then 10 years later you come out and tell the truth?

Wonder if there's a book not far off. Or a reality TV show. Or some kind of publicity stunt.

The question becomes do his "non-roid" stats qualify him for the hof. We all know thats the only reason he did it was to get into the hof since his vote % barely went up this year.

I hope they keep them all out.

No. They wouldnt get him in. Not even close, really.

Read my previous post in this thread for my feelings on that though. Babe Ruth took amphetamines all day long - (Im a Yankee fann, btw) - Mickey Mantle was shot up with all the time because of various injuries.

This has been going on forever, and the highest level athletes in every sport will use every advantage they can get their hands on. You would too. Its human nature.

Whatever your job is right now - if I came up to you and said 'Hey, Ive got this , if you take it, you will triple the amount of money you make and be twice as productive in your field.'

Wanna try and tell me you would tell me to eff off - sorry, 'take off'?(hahaha)

To be fair, he didn't exactly lie under oath. He pleaded the 5th.

All these players are taking the fall when MLB practically endorsed them to take steroids, and now MLB wants to leave them out of the HOF? MLB should be taking the fall, not the players.

I'd put all of the 'roid players in the hall if I had a vote - if they otherwise were qualified. Neither would I put any asterisks beside their names in the record books.

Let's face it, if it had leaked out during the summer of '98 that McGuire and Sosa wre on Steroids, MLB would have been ACTIVELY working to deny everything. They couldn't possibly have cared less, and were likely encouraging the practice.

We KNOW that they were turning a blind eye at the very least.

He is the new hitting coach for the Cards. Probably had to say something to avoid the constant question.

I don't see what the big deal is.

Who gives a crap if you take steroids? Steroids don't make someone strong. Nor do they improve the mechanics of his swing.

Exactly.

Lied under oath? Ummm, no. McGwire specifically said he wasn't going to talk about the past. EVERYONE knew that it was his way of admitting steroid use without actually admitting steroid use.

I actually have respect for him now. Unlike Bonds, Sosa, Clemens, Palmeiro etc.

Admittedly, the bar is quite low for cheating baseball players. Name another player that just came right out and admitted they took steroids without much prompting? I don't think Andy Pettitte counts.

He's been "prompted" (to admit) for quite a long time I would suggest.

But he did it without having a book ready to be sold. So good on him considering he's not really benefiting from this.
