Go to CDN tire and ask for a return, they seem pretty relaxed on returns as long as the product isn't damaged.
Sorry to hear about your ring though.

Two suggestions:
- There is something called a weed anhiolator (sp). Basically a portable flame thrower that works on the 1lb propane tanks. Might help melt the snow. I own one if it comes to that.
- Offer the attendant a reward. That way he won't try to pawn it, etc if he finds it or somebody turns it in. Heck, he migt even look for it after his shift if there's enough cash on the line.

Good idea, but not too sure it would go over that well at a gas station, no matter how far the area is from the gas pumps

Thanks for the offer ken, but I think the gas station may take issue with me and an open flame near their pumps
And, I'm not sure how to put this very p.c., but the attendant was not very familiar with the english language and had a hard time understanding me when I told him if a ring was turned in, call the number on the card I gave him. I'm not sure he would know exactly what I was getting at re: reward.

That is hilarious. Maybe ken would like to volunteer his time to torching the ground near a gas station?
That's too funny ken!

You could possibly ask the gas station if you could set up one of those heating units around the snowbank if thats the last possible option.

Big bags of water softener salt chips are cheap, and will knock down a snow bank as fast as anything that doesnt have as open flame.
I have no idea, however, what a big ole salt chip snuggled up to your gold ring for a couple of hours before you spot it would do to the gold ring. Nothing? Cool orange stains that would spark conversations for the rest of your life? I honestly dont know.
I hope you find it!

ok..this sounds crazy..but if u lost something..get kids to look for it! years ago i was at a campsite and i lost an expensive piece of jewellry..so at the campsite i put up a sign that said 75 dollar reward if found..we're talking a massive campsite, with beach, baseball diamond..docks..the whole bit..an hour later there are tons and tons of kids looking and 3 hours later some kid showed up with it..it was kind of bent because he found it on the baseball field where people had played a game the night before..that was aournd 1988 so 75 bucks was pretty good dough for a kid back then.

Id go for broke and bribe some kids to use the flame thrower to find your ring.
I lost a cellphone a few years back and thought it fell out while doing remote sensing in this farmers field. 2 hours searching the field full of cow paddies and nothing... The next day the car rental guy found it on the floor while doing his post inspection.

hahaha. this just keeps getting better.
My car was broken into last night and I still had the metal detector in the trunk. Annnnd guess what they took (along with some coins). What's weird is they left everything else: sunglasses, xm radio etc. I thought it was a bit odd that my car was unlocked this AM (it's never left unlocked, I quadruple check every time.)

The concrete pads also tend to have rebar in them.
Like I said, use a pin locator. It also helps if it is an experienced person using it as they can usually tell the difference between a signal emitted from different metal features in the ground and that of something small like a ring. Regular metal detectors really lack the range and just detects if metal is present. Pin locators (if used by someone who has experience), can give you a better idea of how much metal and how deep, and are also more precise (the signal does not fan out like a metal detector).

I'll bet you the ring wasn't on your hand when you "washed" them in the snow.
