Jones has played at a high level for longer and besides helping Alexander, also has protected Hasslebeck and given him the chance to do what he's done.

Kennedy, dominant in the league on a bad team in his era, and Largent, are there without question.

That said, honorable mention goes to for moving Seattle to the poor NFC West in 2002. Staying in the AFC west with Denver and San Diego (although I guess it was San Diego as the alternate choice for the NFC move) and its unlikely Seattle (albeit they were a good team in the overall NFC for a couple years) would've had the same overall success and have got to a Superbowl having to play Denver and San Diego twice instead of ARI and SF in their lean years.

As for Carroll, I can't believe he won't have Shanahan-type control over the whole operation in Seattle, and not just patrol the sidelines.

Sure, there may be a GM to handle the nuts and bolts and admin duties, but I assume Carroll to have full control and final say over personnell decisions.

SEA could've likely had Holmgren in the same vein, with or without being coach, but as I said, probably was best to cut those ties as Holmgren would've been reluctant to make some of the fundamental changes (ie speed up the QB successor) from what was basically the team he constrcuted a couple years back.

Certainly a bit of a risk to see if Pete can translate college success in theory to the NFL, and, if he is given a long enough time frame to do it. That said, SEA just needs 3 or 4 more wins (2 more divison wins, 1 outside division win) to win the weak division (and if ARI loses Warner, its even more wide open) and get in the playoffs, so its not a complete teardown and rebuild that's needed to get back to the playoffs, which is the first step for Carroll and the franchise.

Wonder if Carroll goes after Leinart from AZ in the off season...knows the kid as well as anyone.

You'd have to think that Seattle is giving him considerable say over personell and that the GM they hire will more or less handle the business end of things. Seems odd to axe a coach than hire a new one right away while you keep the GM chair empty for 5-6 weeks.

Rickey Jackson deserves to be in the HOF. His career numbers are similar to Lawrence Taylor, who was a shoo in.

If Jackson played in a larger market, he would have been a lock. Glad to see he finally made the list of 15.

Browna....

You want to replace Easley? OH...for shame. Quite simply, the best safety in the game in the 1980's not named Ronnie Lott. Bar none.

I have no problem with replacing Kreig though.

Shaun Alexander isn't even the best back in Seattle history, in terms of raw talent anyway. Damn turf.

Great player...on the brink of being the greatest QB ever.

That said, if I were a Colts fan I'd be scared to death that it will have been nearly a month since he took a meaningful snap by the time they get around to playing next weekend.

Some NFL teams getting in on the CFL signings.
Dolphins sign grice-mullens WR from the BC Lions and gaurd Guard Dimitri Tsoumpas from the Stamps

I believe other teams have started signing some CFL players too I think the colts signed John Chick and the Jets signed Larry Taylor

At this point in time Harrison is the best reciever in Colts history. By the time Reggie Wayne is finished though, I think he will have a lot of the Colts recieving records.

I've watched Manning way too many times to be scared to death about that. He is usually the constant on the Colts that keeps ticking. If the Colts lose a playoff game this year I doubt it will be because of Manning's rust. I expect him to play another solid game next Saturday. A loss would occur most likely because of the running game (for and against the Colts) and settling for FG's over TD's. I think Indy will be fine next week no matter who they face. It's the week after that really worries me (San Diego in particular).

I am not even considering Wayne.

Raymond Berry was likely the best receiver in the NFL for a good portion of his career. His numbers will never compare to those of today, as teams only played 12 games, then 14 all season. Also this was an era when many teams rushed for more yards than threw. He is simply one of the best ever as evidenced by his selection as one of the WR when the NFL's 75th anniversary team was announced.

The next Cardinals lose could be Kurt Warner last game according to Adam Schefter.

I figured I had to include the Hall of Famers and Martin has a good shot to make it too. The craziest thing about Curtis Martin is that he didn't even like football. Never watched it. He saw it as a job like every other, and worked hard for his teammates.

Anybody know of any reputable 2010 draft rankings that are fairly thorough?

There isn't a ton there right now, but it is great site. As the draft gets closer, I find its one of the best.

Oilfan#81 has probably never heard of him.

I found reading about Raymond Berry to be one of the most interesting things I have ever come across in sports history. He never ever should have been drafted and would not have been drafted today. His work and study with Unitas made him the great receiver he was. He found that when the other Colts QB's would throw to him in practice the defensive backs had no problems covering him and keeping the ball away from him. When Unitas was under center, Barry was unstoppable. It all came down to the preparation and hours upon hours of the two watching film together and working together before and after practice.

Barry was also one of the first athletes to be a full time professional athlete in an era when players had off season jobs. He felt he needed to be sharp physically and mentally all year round to be able to compete with the superior athletes in the NFL. A very amazing story.

A bit Off Topic, but I think it's Thursday night at 7:00 Mountain time they are airing the first two parts of a documentary called Full Color Football on NFL Network. It was a 5 part documentary that originally aired on Showtime about the history of the AFL all the way through the merger with the NFL. I'm going to try and DVR it, although Thursday is usually a war with the wife when it comes to that.

Quite a bit of speculation coming out of Philadelphia that McNabb and Westbrook have possibly played their last games as Eagles. The speculation about McNabb is an annual tradition, but this year it seems to have a bit more momentum behind it, and it's more based on steps the organization has taken than just local opinion. All three of the Eagles quarterbacks (McNabb, Vick, and Kolb) are only under contract until the end of the 2010 season.

It's been very similar results for the Eagles for 11 years now, and I thought going into this year that something out of the McNabb/Reid combo would need to be changed if they couldn't get it done this year. I'd thought Reid should go, but the organization decided to extend him. The Eagles front office basically put the writing on the wall when they extended Reid but only gave Donovan a raise.

McNabb is probably my favourite player, but it makes sense to look into trading him at this point, unless Reid and company believe the Eagles have a legitimate shot at winning the Super Bowl next year. This team has a lot of holes that need to be filled, and trading McNabb could give them the pieces to fill those holes. Kolb showed signs that he can be a starter in the NFL, and the Eagles have been able to win without Donovan in the past (see: Kolb 2009, Garcia 2006, Feely/Detmer 2003). It would be terrible asset management to produce similar results next season and then have Donovan leave for nothing in 2011.
