Last Updated Wed, 24 Aug 2005 19:31:12 EDT
CBC News

A Canadian Forces Snowbird aerial demonstration jet crashed on its way to an airshow Wednesday in Thunder Bay, in northwestern Ontario.

The plane exploded in a rural field, moments after the pilot -- 39-year-old Capt. Andrew Mackay of Orleans, Ont. -- ejected safely. Mackay is reported to be in stable condition in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Good ol' military equipment for you.

I'm glad the pilot is fine. Perhaps this might help prompt the government to invest money into upgrading our degrading military equipment? Even if it is just show planes....

They are making an effort to upgrade... the military bought a crapload of tanks a few years ago, which are currently being made.

However, I agree with you completely that more is needed... especially the Snowbirds!

Those tanks, also called the Mobile Gun System are quietly being canceled as there is no world wide market for a concept as flawed as these are.

The Snowbird AirFrames are almost 30 years old and becoming as dangerous as the CF-18 from a wear point of view.

Lets hope that the powers that be can actually start showing brains and common sense when it comes to doing a proper job of re-equiping the forces. And hopefully favoritism and neopotism isn't used as a deciding factor in purchasing equipment this time.

What am I talking about, its the Liberals.
