Dude...how do you have Smith, Moss, and AP on this list but no Cris Carter? That has to be a cardinal sin in Viking land.

It's hard for most teams. I had to leave off guys like Herm Edwards, Troy Vincent, Bobby Taylor, Jon Runyan, Randall Cunningham, Westbrook, Jaworski, Dick Vermeil, Harold Carmichael, etc.
EDIT: And I left off Steve Van Buren

Speculation on ESPN that Cowher or Leslie Frazier are the frontrunners for the Seattle job.

Pretty easy for the Bills unless you get want to the debate the Running back
Thurman Thomas (over OJ ... because all the murderin' and armed robbery)
Jim Kelly
Bruce Smith
Marv Levy
All played together ... doesn't say much for the franchise I guess =\

Poor.
In retrospect he should've done something maybe more radical with the QB situation rather then wait and see if Hasselbeck was going to bounce back after two poor seasons. Instead, he stood pat, and put faith that Hasslebeck wasn't past it. He was wrong, Hasslebeck was worse then expected without excuses to hide behind last year.
Injuries didn't help on the O-line..but not having a team leader at QB hurt this team before, and since, the Superbowl, and becoming painfully clear that its still missing, and now cost a decent coach and nice guy, his job as a result.
I don't like this because they are putting the blame of last year soley on him, when he was just more or less assuming the duties, and the team, from Holmgren.
Plus, SEA still don't have a GM in place. Makes no sense to pick a new coach before that.
Management obviously doesn't want to get left behind with teams like BUF interviewing coaches (MIN's defensive co-ordinator, SEA's asked permission to talk to) and IMO made this snap decision because they have their eye on a guy.
The GM, especially with two top 15 draft picks upcoming should be the priority hiring, not the coach.

yup...i had to leave off 21 HOF'ers as well.
I really didnt want to leave off Ray Nitschke or Don Hutson...but the club has so much friggin history its impossible to boil it down to just 4 or 5 and cover things.

The 4th is debatable but I went with the team's best reciever in history.

Maybe thats why the fired him then.
It will allow whomever becomes GM a clean slate and none of the awkwardness of assuming a coach that maybe isnt his guy. That actually makes some sense to me.

Going into this season I never thought it'd be Mangini being brought back and Mora getting the axe.
Mora just seemed like he had been getting groomed for the Seahawks job for years, even when he was back in the Atl. I remember him making some stupid jokey comment as the Falcons HC about how he'd leave the Falcons right now to be HC at UW, starting rumours about moving back to Seattle. Then he finally takes over as an assistant, and everyone knows he's eventually supplanting Holmgren. So in the end its almost 5 years of waiting for Mora to finally take over, and after just one season its all over. I just find it funny.

Thats the fun thing about Dis's idea is that a lot of it is debatable (depending on the team). Picking Polian over Weeb Ewbank would be a controversial topic with most hard core Colt fans. Especially those left in Baltimore. Weeb Ewbank coached the Colts to two championships. Under Polian the Colts have only gotten one.

Jeff George should be on the Colts list.

It'd be easier for the new GM to fire Mora if he isn't his guy then to try and fit a GM together with an exsisting coach you've just brought in. Again, especially in this case given SEA's great draft position, I think having a GM in place to have a direction he wants to go with personnell for the next era of the franchise takes precendence over hiring a coach.
Unless they plan on hiring a coach/gm (or coach, then make him GM, ala the Matt Dunnigan debacle) but not sure who out there qualifies.
As for Cowher, although SEA's possibilities are likely greater than Buffalo's, I thought location and proximity to family was high on his list, and all the way up in Seattle would be his last geographic choice.

Thats what i mean...they will probably hire a new GM before hiring a coach...then let new guy hire his own coach.

Well, they're asking permission to interview coaches today, and I think the ESPN article said SEA was planning to start interviewing GM's next week at the earliest, maybe.
Mora being fired today is just odd, and leads me to believe there is someone SEA wants as coach having just popped on the radar, and now has to act ASAP to scoop that candidate from another team.
Mora was put up and out to the media early in the week for the season ender, doing the solo job, as there was no GM to help answer the question about this year, and the plans for next year.
We'll see.

T.J. Whosyourmomma was just interviewed on ESPN and said he was completely stunned that Mora was axed. Said the team had no inkling that something like this was coming.
I have to believe that, as you said LB, someone has appeared on SEattles radar and they are jumping at the opportunity.

Well who could have guessed Seattle hero Jim Zorn would come free?
Grab him while they can!

NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! Mortenson and Schefter both reporting mutual interest.
I think Carroll would be really stupid to leave USC...really stupid.
The world is his oyster there. He gets a handsome salary (well over 4 mil a year), has his pick of recruits, and a fanbase second to none.
Maybe after his aborted first attempt at the NFL, and him having little left to prove at the college level, he wants a new challenge?
Ugh....as a USC fan this sucks.
