Why is the WHL also called The Dub?
I am not from out west but I hear it called The Dub all the time, I thought it was the Western Hockey League?

I'll bite.
It's like any other abbreviation for junior hockey. The QMJHL is called The Q, though I guess I don't hear the OHL referred to as The O.
Basically, "Dub" is shorthand for "Double-U (W)". So instead of saying "The W", they say "The Dub".

There is no such thing as a stupid question.
Things that are obvious to some (like us that grow up in the culture surrounding the WHL) are not so obvious to others.
I am sure you aren't the only one on this board that didn't know why it was called "The Dub" but you were the only one with the balls to ask.
