how's your computer skills? you don't have to be an uber IT guy, but if you know do simple things like clear your internet cache, find and ping an IP address, and other basic internet troubleshooting stuff you could apply to Shaw as a TSR. their requirements for actual computer knowledge isn't that high, as they mainly look for people with good customer service skills. that was my part-time job as a student and all i did was give the scheduler my school schedule and they built my work shifts around it. worked perfectly and the pay is much better than your standard retail outlet there's also the CSR role if you're not too technical, though they do have sales expectations that the TSR's don't

Oh way after my time. I worked for them December 2004 to August 2006 in Calgary and in Victoria til October 2008. Some good people that work there especially one guy, Chris Both (Trainer), if you ever met him. Met a ton of people through that company and still stay in touch with a lot of them even though I moved away.
Money use to be way better when I first started working three compared to now. I still have friends in head office bugging me to move back to do some corporate sales.

Oh yeah Chris was awesome. I did meet him a few times, but I was never trained by him since for some reason they decided I never had to be sent to training. I did always hear from all the lifers there that the money was outrageously good before I started, and I did notice that as the months passed, our commission kept getting cut. Still was pretty awesome making around $25/hour while in school though.
My only complaint was having to deal with stupid customers every once in a while. The worst was having one of those days where you don't do a single activation or hardware upgrade all day because you are too busy dealing with customer issues that you have no control over.

On average when I worked there I was making closer to $40/hr with the activations and I was a warranty/accessory whore!
Did you ever meet Tyler Finney? He would have worked at the Deerfoot location but he might have gone to corporate by the time you started.

I'm surprised working at Chinook they didn't teach you the ways of dealing with customer problems....send them to another store.

put up posters on campus to proofread essays.
I did this and the only people who respond are ESL students who come in with some clearly plagerized papers. You cut and shred their essay so it makes sense then have to convince them that when the professor says "1250 words" it's ok that it is 1242 words.
Charge $20.00 an hour and insist that they give you not less than 10 days to review their writing prior to when it is due. Do not advertise "research" because that is code for "write your paper for you". You'll get asked that as well, but stick to your guns.
You should be able to get yourself 20 or so hours per semester with this.

$40/h would have been unreal! That's more than I make as a Junior Engineer now.
Never met Tyler, he must have left before I came since I did actually work at Deerfoot meadows a few shifts in the summer of 2008.

It's funny that you say that, most of the smaller stores would throw their problems at us. We had a really huge hate with Westbrook since they used to tell customers to go to Chinook for pretty much anything that didn't make them money (repairs, complaints, etc.). The way we dealt with it is usually by yelling at the really stupid ones

You work out right? Do you have the size to be a bouncer? Great money and fits pretty much exactly the hours you're looking for.

I knew a girl that worked in West Ed and made 6 figures working full time. Just stupid!

Ya that is pay back for all those years of Chinook doing that to everyone else.

When I was in University I worked at nights for Fedex Ground. Pretty good pay at the time (late 2003, plus you get more if you work late), and the perks were alright (management took us out to Dennys every few weeks, which was really nice after working all night). The work can be fairly physical or fairly light, depending on what you like. Best part was the actual labour was a fantastic workout. It was like going to the gym for 4 hours a day. At the end I was in the best shape of my life, and the people I worked with were pretty good characters (although there were a surprising number of people from DeVry there ...).

Have you thought of being a security guard? Try the Stampede, you can book yourself hockey games, concerts and other events. Even the office buildings downtown need the occasion fill in shift. Your campus might need people as well. I worked security throughout school...you basically spend your shift trying to stay awake.

How about at the Uni as a parking lot attendant? Soul-crushingly boring, but you could do all the studying/DS-ing you want.

I worked the night shift on the weekends at Silver Springs Esso for my first year of Uni. That seriously translated into some amazing grades as there were virtually no customers from 2-6 and I spent the entire time studying. 6.50/hour at the time!?!
Then, taught guitar to snot nosed kids for the final three years. The school I worked at charged 50/hour, but I would only see 30 of that.
Have any special skills that you can teach to little kiddies?

Security Guards are usually in high demand and they work hours that would fit your Uni schedule

Did the computer lab tech thing at the U of C for years. Lots of hot, stupid chicks in the Social Sciences one.
Do they even still have computer labs there? I thought everybody had a Mac or something.
