thats base and doesnt include Bob's bonuses... in 2008 he made 5.79 million . looks like it was a 3 million dollar one time bonus for being there 10 yrs .... so maybe he is just 3.8... i still doubt he would leave for another 200k ...

Hold the phone! Meyer has decided that he will take a leave of absence for an undetermined time period. Steve Adazzio will take over as interim coach while Meyer is gone.

So unfortunately all those "Who's going to coach Florida?!!!" rumors are now moot.

I just woke up. (i work 3rd shift) and glad to hear hes taking a leave of absence. Now a reporter asked him "Do you believe in your gut that you will coach this team in the fall?"

as meyer replied

"I believe in my gut that will happen."

so pretty much looks like he will take the winter and spring off getting back in the saddle next year.

There is something really fishy/weird about this Meyer thing IMO.

first he announces that he is leaving the game completely as his health demands it and he wants to be with his family as they are the most important thing in his life and he needs to address that.

OK I can buy that, but why would you make the annoncement a week before the Sugar Bowl and distract everything to do with the program, especially when he was gonna coach in the game anyhow.

then 24 hours later, he announces....nope i am just taking a leave of absence because i am afraid of what a new administration would do to the rpogram i have created and i cant stand to see that happen.

So I guess family wasnt the reason to begin with if all it took for that to not be priority number 1 was some sort of irrational fear that Florida football may take a step back from where he thinks it should be.

Something just doesnt add up there...and maybe its just me being cynical/jaded about these kinds of things, but i sure wouldnt be surprised if we hear something along the lines of a scandal involving him after we get through the bowl season, and he was merely trying to head it off at the pass so to speak.

Agreed. Didn't he also say something about rededicating himself to his faith? That's a standard "i've screwed up big time, here's my get out of jail free card".

Really disturbing story emerging out of Texas Tech who has suspended coach Mike leach for their upcoming bowl game.

Apparently leach was told one of his players named Adam james (son of ESPN broadcaster Craig James) has not been medically cleared to practice due to a concussion. It is then alleged that leach told one of his triners to take the kid and lock him up in an electrical closet as a motivator for the kid to stop worrying/complaining about his "head hurting". And it happened...where the player was actually locked alone in a closet for some length of time.

Im sure many more details will clear this stuff up in the coming days...but holy smokes is that a bizarre deal.

EDIT: here is the ESPN story up now...

So Texas Tech has put the Captain Pirate Mike Leach in the Brig for the Alamo Bowl. Some accusations about alleged player abuse.

Yup, outside of the first and last couple minutes, that was complete domination on both sides of the ball. Miami looked completely beat up, so it's a credit to them that they had one last good drive in them (their only good drive of the day, really).

Leach is out at Texas Tech. I thought the Spartans would be rolling in with little chance due to their mass suspensions, but Tech might be in complete disarray after losing their coach days before the game.

I'm going with Oregon too, but I'm a fan of the program and I haven't watched Ohio State a lot this year. If they can find their October form, then no question, it could be a rout. In this sort of game everyone focuses on the unstoppable offense vs immovable defense, but it more often comes down to the other side of the football: Ohio's offense is really physical and grinding, and that's not the best matchup (at least on paper) for Oregon's fast, small defense. Although many predicted they'd be manhandled by USC's larger O-line, and that didn't happen.

Are we not getting the Holiday Bowl (which is supposedly one of the good Bowls to be in) tonight? Two ranked teams....stupid Canadian channels...

Huh, looks like you're right. That is annoying. Guess I'll be watching it online while I watch the Flames and Raptors on TV.
