First off, what's the deal with starting at like 9:15?

Being a self-admitted candyass, it's probably not fair for me to say this, but there sure are a few candyasses in this year's crowd. Talk about your quitters. Sheesh.

The "boss" guy at the end gave them a pretty good talking-to. I mean come on, how dumb are these guys? "Hmm, I have to be 170 pounds in maybe 3 days and I weigh 190 right now. Should I do something about that"?

Maybe someone who knows more about this than me (if you know anything, you know more than me) but what is the deal with being so heavy when you've signed up to be 170? Seems pretty silly, but maybe there is a reason for it. Losing 25 pounds in 24 hours seems sillier than anything, especially if you have to get in a fistfight not long after you do it.

The show was a bit of a flop tonight without a fight at the end. Hopefully it gets better.

SpikeTV shows WWF's Raw in the States, if you're flipping through the channel you'll notice TSN shows Raw here in Canada. It tends to run over a bit and while they are showing Raw, we get whatever they want to throw on.. which means commercials in Canada until Raw is over.

Being a bit of an MMA geek, look out for Canadian Rob MacDonald. He wasn't shown at all tonight, probably because he isn't a whiny baby so they didn't put any of his talking heads in. He is a big heavyweight.

Some of them are probably "natural" middleweights (185 pound) and signed up for the welterweight just for the chance to be on the show. I'm sure most of them hover around 190 and cut 5 pounds or so for a fight. Last season Jesus boy Diego Sanchez fought at 185.. but he is normally a welterweight at 170.

Ya, that was brutal. I wasn't expecting a match to be on tonight, and I was excited, and then let down when wuss boy didn't want to cut 5 more pounds.

Damnit, I missed the first episode.

Anybody know if they're going to show it again before the 2nd episode airs?

I watched a few episodes of the first season and it was mostly over the top testosterone filled men breaking shinguard in the house. But I did see the last fight for the contract and that was awesome, It was so good that they gave both of them the contract right? or am I getting confused?

Well the preview said that the first fight will happen this week so I assume that it will. Dana was fairly passed at what happened last week so I would think that everyone would be working on their weight starting early and that they all will be ready to fight if called on.

Did anyone watch the Pride FC final last night? There were some great fights.

Fedor vs. Crocop was sweet. Cro cop tired out in round 2 and Fedor held onto the heavy weight title. Fedor looked in rough shape after the match. Cro cop landed a couple of his infamous kicks.

Ex Pride champ Wanderlei Silva lost to that cocky idiot Ricardo Arona. Then Shogun man-handled Arona in the final. He's a great fighter to watch.

Old Tank Abbot fought in a pointless matchup and lost.

I wouldn’t say Emelianenko looked in rough shape at all, it was Filipovic that looked like a beaten man and Fedor showed very little sign of fatigue or give. He was in a hell of a lot better shape then Filipovic. I’ll take a bloddy nose and a black eye any day over the beating Filipovic received, regardless Fedor absolutely dominated that match and all that hype that was here pn the old forum about how Filipovic would knock out Fedor (who most posters had no clue who he was) was just that talk. He has a punchers chance, and an amazing puchers chance at that, but as proven Emelianenko is by far the superior fighter.

I was worried about rust showing on the champ and was afraid that an accurate striker could dethrone him, as didn’t get to see Bushido 6 so I wasn’t too sure if that was the case.

I heard, think it was Bas Rutten that said it, that Yoshida will be stepping up from the 205 and I would assume to see a Yoshida vs. Filipovic match up, then if Filipovic can avenge his loss to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira he should be looking at another chance at Emelianenko.

If they hold another Heavyweight Grandprix next year then maybe this can speed up things.

Theres no doubt that Fedor won the fight and I agree he is the superior fighter. Crocop looked like he was in better shape, but just fell behind in the 2nd round and on. Crocop got his shots in. I gave the first round to Crocop by a hair (although the commentators disagreed) and the rest to Fedor.

Great episode last night, the end fight was great. I'm was really impressed with the guy who won last night, he escaped a couple potentially dangerous chokes and had an impressive and fast ground game.

Yup, definately a great fight. That melvin guy really passed me off in the first episode with his "Do you know who the Fata I am? Do you know how many knockouts I have?". Josh fought him perfectly, take him out of his element and dominante the ground work. That's not to say Melvin didn't have some decent ground skills... actually, he didn't really, sure the guy is a great athlete and very quick, but that doens't mean he is a good fighter, which Josh made clear by pretty much controlling him for the whole fight.

Ya Melvin's ground game is pretty weak, and in MMA at that level.. it's going to come back to bite you big time. The heaveyweights can get away with little ground game.. but fast welterweights? You better know how to submit and ground and pound.

Melvin had some good escapes and was really fast, but Josh outlasted him and wore him out. It was a really fun match to watch.

Yeah, I couldn't beleive some of the things Melvin was doing to get away from Josh, but sooner or later, one of those rolls is gonna backfire, and he's gonna end up in a world of hurt. Looks like he can throw 'em pretty good, but untill he learns to defend the takedowns (Boy did he get slammed a lot), he'll never make it into UFC. Sure he has a great record, and probably a lot of knockouts, but how many of those were against a bunch of scrubs that thought they could stand up against him because they didn't have any ground game eitehr?

Yup, exactly. I was just over at Sherdog and looked at his record.. 19-4-2, damn that is alot of fights for a 23(i think) year old. But he didn't take advantage when he had Josh rocked, threw some leg kicks and never capitilized on it.

So for those interested, and ya it's a little late, but who is your picks for Heaveyweight and Welterweigh winners?

I'm going with Keith Jardine for the heavyweights. It's a bit of a cheat as he was the first guy taken in the team pick last night. But Keith is in shape and knows how to fight, a record of 7-1 coming into the show. I think Canadian Rob Cookson could impress too, but I'm going with Jardine.

Welterweight's.. I'm going with Sammy Morgan. I've liked what I've seen from him so far. I might have gone with Jorge Gurgel here, but that knee has me worried.

You guys should read the he said section on the spiketv.com. It's Forrest and Stephan from UF1 commenting on the shows and they are both pretty entertaining. They were both slagging the Bible study part, which I thought was pretty weak also.
